Hi-

All of a sudden, CCleaner decides to start acting up. Never, ever had an issue with it before.

I click the 'Analyze' and it finds everything OK, but when I click 'Run Cleaner', the program decides

to simply close. Have uninstalled, reinstalled all to no avail. We Google for solutions but found no relevant

answers.

System files are OK, no malware, and all's well with my AV applications list

Any help, please?...

Thanks!

Hi timw128,

Very strange!

I have used CCleaner for years and I never had any problems similar to what you describe.

Here is a link that I think you might find interesting: Alternatives for CCleaner

In the meantime, I would run MalwareBytes and see if that finds anything.

I would also download and run Revo Uninstaller (free) and delete CCleaner using it. Set the search for leftover items to Advanced.

I hope this helps!

As stated, there's no malware in the machine- we have a 3 prog protocol we use to check, one of which is Malwarebytes, in Safe Mode.

And yes, we use Revo Uninstaller, in 'advanced' reg clean up mode.

We went to Filehippo and downloaded CCLeaner's last 4 versions... we had to go back to v541 from March 2018 to get it to run, so, yes, it most definitely is a bug in the prog. Why the latest release worked up until yesterday, though, is beyond me. At the Piriform forums, people have been having the same issue with CCleaner dating back to the Windows Vista days, with no solution found. It would seem there's a bit of a bug in the coding that's causing the anomaly, or they have server linking issues.

I've had excellent results with Glary Utilities Pro, and we got a lifetime license free.

Thanks.

I've said this before, on various forums, and I usually get flamed for it, but here I go again.

Several years ago, I heard about CCleaner and decided to try it. When it finished, my PC was effectively DEAD and would not boot. I had to do a Ghost Restore to get my PC back.

I just figured that was a fluke, so several years later I tried CCleaner again, with the same results.
So now CCleaner is on my dung list, and I won't let it anywhere near my PC. "Once burned, twice shy".

I tried WinUtils and just love it, so I bought a lifetime lic. I run it at least once a week and I run the File Cleaner and the Registry Cleaner. I credit it for how well my system runs. "Minus Crud is Cool"!

TM, I don't doubt you, but my experience has always been good with CCleaner.

I'll have to check out WinUtils.

Yeah, I noticed the last 2 updates it started lagging badly while cleaning IE... my primary is Opera.
Reverted back to MR 2018 update and it's supposedly working now.

Thanks...not to doubt you, but there are varied opinions on WinUtils...

Never had an issue with CCleaner over the past 10 yrs., until now... dirty bit in their code or some kind of clutter in their servers. Some even claim CCleaner's went downhill since avast! took them over. Didn't know that...we switched from avast! Internet Security to Kaspersky Internet Security a couple of years ago with much better results.

Have you tried Ccleaner portable version?

I just use an older version of Ccleaner. That's all you really need. You can go to oldversion.com or oldapps.com and get it. Remember to use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of Ccleaner first. But to tell you the truth, System Ninja WILL find a hell of a lot more temp files and crap than Ccleaner. I run both. System Ninja - SingularLabs

Have you tried Ccleaner portable version?

Yes, and had the same issue... went back to release v5.41.6446 (x64) and it works fine.

The issue is clearly on the software providers end.
