Hi ningpra. It is not necessary to use any registry cleaners/optimizers in Windows 7. They do more harm than good. By all means use CCleaner to clean unwanted files but do not use the registry section.

I can universally recommend CCleaner. I will warn against Tune Up as it can, and has borked a system where it removed something it shouldn't have. CCleaner has never been known to do that. They may both work ok on your system, but are unnecessary. A Guy

Windows has a built-in cleaning utility that works OK.

Hundreds of millions of PCs world-wide operate well without CCleaner or any other 3rd party cleaning or optimization utility.

What does that tell you?

I use CCleaner. Not because I can demonstrate that it improves my PC's performance, but because I am as obsessive/compulsive as the next guy--maybe more so.

I "feel better" thinking I have done something useful. I also take vitamins for much the same reason.

It helps me to whistle as I pass the graveyard.

I have TuneUp installed in my system ... but never use it . Initially I have used it with windows 7, and got various troubles. Sometimes those troubles are hard enough to fix, and sometimes those are beyond any fix.

If you really want to use TuneUp, dont use it for more than these three functions
2012-04-30_094443.jpg

CCleaner, on the other hand , never gave me a chance to complain against it.

The Disk Cleanup utility inbuilt (found in Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup) can do it all the cleaning needed .

Finally, about registry hive , dont touch it at all, unless you are 100% sure what you are going to do .

is it ok to do a manual registry??

Can you say that in another way?

What do you mean?

If you mean a manual backup of the registry, that can be done with certain third party utilities or with Windows System Restore.

If you mean manually editing the registry, it's OK if you know what you are doing and not OK if you don't. The registry is so complex that very few people understand it, but that doesn't stop them from editing it. It hasn't stopped me.

so disk cleanUP is better than any other 3rd party appli..
No ! not at all. All the third party registry cleaners are equally harmful for a windows 7 system.

what if tune Up utiliy do harm in your system?? how can i restore previous file that tune up deleted
You cannot restore all the things that tuneup deletes .... other than performing a image restoration , that A Guy suggested : Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup .

Windows 7 does not need a registry cleaner, that is not the real fact. The real fact is registry cleaners are not compatible to deal with windows 7. They dont do any good, just can cause some harms.

TBH windows disk clean-up is more than enough and Ccleaner is quiet acceptable for cleaning history etc. But i use it mostly for disabling some start programs which even msconfig can do :).

tune up sounds more like tune down to me

Think by manual registry he means to pick out what values he wants to delete that pop up in say ccleaner. I say if he wants to do that, that he should always make a backup of the registry which is what I do when I want to clean out junk from the registry just in case something goes wrong I could always reapply the values back.

To the op you can pick out what you want cleaned out but always make a backup of the registry just in case something goes wrong.

Good decision too. ;)

No registry cleaner is completely safe and the potential is ever present to cause more problems than they claim to fix.

THEREFORE
If you do not have knowledge of the registry, then you would probably be better off leaving it alone, and definitely not placing blind trust in a program to do the job for you.
