Solved CCleaner

I have been using CCleaner (Free version) for years but I am having a problem at the moment. I tried to "check for updates" this morning and it wouldn't update. It is currently on v6.38.11537 but doesn't update and shows a vague message about something went wrong. I looked on their website and everything is about a recent new CCleaner 7 which is a paid version. No info about how to update or sort out any problems with the free version. Has anyone else had any problems with it? Could this be Piriform dumping W7 users like so many others have done?

It certainly looks like it. I managed to find an older version to install. Works fine, and I have disabled "auto update" so should have no further problems.

Quite possibly. I have been having the same problem with Wise Cleaner. Haven't been able to update it for the past two weeks or so. Just use the last working version.

6.39.11548 was the last version 6 released before the disastrous version 7 was released.

I keep a copy of it to install and use after doing a clean install of Windows 7/10/11 in a computer.

The older one I found was 6.38.11537. Do you know where I can find your later version? There are a lot of sites offering "older versions" of software but most seem dodgy at best in terms of malware additions. I know the standard advice is always source your software from the developer's own site but in this case CCleaner doesn't offer any older versions.....or have I missed it.

Once a site releases a new version of an app, it usually removes the previous version.
That is why I always retain a copy of the version of an app which I intend to install again in the future.

The file size of my copy of CCleaner 6.39.11548 is 84.2 MB.

Ha I've been using v5.44.6575 (64-bit) for many years and it might complain monthly that I need to update it but of course I haven't and it works just fine for my purposes.

I dunno why I would update to 6.39 (mine ain't broke so why fix it) but I suppose I should at least download and have it on hand huh.

How often does it complain???
