Solved CD/DVD not reconized

My year old build lost the dvd drive. There is not even a dvd header in the device manager any more. The BIOS does not reconized it either.Cannot go back to a restore point either because system can not find point before problem. No disk image can be found.

Welcome to Seven Forums mountainbike. Do you mean the DVD drive is not showing in Device Manager? Does anything there have the yellow warning triangle? Make sure the power and data cable are still attached, remove and replace them, with the PC power OFF and power cable disconnected.

Thanks for the reply. There is not even a cd/dvd listed in the device manager thier gone. The bios does not recognize the dvd either.Everything was fine that did a update to microsoft essentials and start having trouble with I-tunes next thing I know my drive is not list.I took out dvd bought a new one and that one was not list either. I put my old one back in.

It would seem that for some reason your motherboard isn't getting the info that a CD drive is connected to it. Is there another connector, SATA or EIDE you can try?

Yes I had an empty sata on the board. I tried using that slot; the bios still did not recongnize and I bought a new CD/DVD drive and it did not Recognize that one either. That came with new cable so I do not think it's that.

Well that's not good. Try plugging your hard drive into the same SATA port and see if it is recognized. If not go back through all of your BIOS settings to make sure the port is enabled and set to SATA. Maybe it'll have to be set to AHCI or IDE mode?
EDIT: Just a note, sometimes iTunes causes issues on some systems.

Yes I'm trying now I think the bios recognized the hard drive it is starting windows now.This takes about minuets now. When it does start everything seems fine except I have no cd/dvd

Ok it did not boot up.I power down and restarted and checked bios and the hard drive was not recongized.I replaced to the orignal port and booted up. In the BIOS
Chipset SATA is enabled
Chipset SATA mode is AHCI
SATA port 0 hard drive
SATA port 1 hard drive
SATA port 2 not installed
SATA port 3 not installed

OK, it would seem the SATA controller works if the same header that works with the HDD does not see the CD drive. Try these three things in order:

2. Go to Device Manager and click on Scan for New Hardware at the top.

Ok after I tryied what use suggested about plugging in the hard drive to SATA where my dvd was and it did not recognize it it made me wonder so I called intel which informed me that the series 6 chipset board had known issues. They have fixed this and said they would send a new board. I would like to Thank you for your time. Thanks Britton 30
