Change font size w/o affecting resolution??

Hey all

I have my lappie jacked into a 37inch TV, it works great for gaming and watching movies and all that good stuff. But when it actually comes to reading the texts on screen it starts to become a strain on the eyes. I would like to be able to max out my resolution, that way I feel like I have more room on the screen as compared to having a lower reso, but in the case that I do use the max reso all of the texts on screen (such as desktop icon names) become very small and hard to read. Now I know there is an option to make the font size bigger, but when I do mess around with that setting to make the font size bigger it just returns everything to a lower state of resolution. So any way to make the font size bigger without affecting the resolution? Thanks for any input on this!

Try botton right of the screen, above the clock on the status bar, click on the magnifcation (zoom level).

If you do not show status bar, go to view toolbars and status bar is checked.

Start> Control Panel> Display> Make text and other items larger or smaller>

Either choose one of the options (125%), or in left pane, set custom text size (DPI). There is a slider that you can move up 1% at a time. Be aware that some of your desktop gadgets can end up with a pink out line, or pink corners at custom DPI. I have a 1920x1200 resolution, and custom DPI of 113%. I put up w/pink outlined gadget for readability. Affects icons, text, text in applications, etc. but your screen res stays the same. Requires restart after change. A Guy

Have you try setting the DPI?
you can select between 96 DPI and 120 DPI (dots per
inch).

I think that is temporary solution, Im looking for something more permanent

Thats what Ive tried, but when upon restart not only does the make the font bigger, but also the default window size, which makes everything seem as if it were the same as a lower reso. How would I go about changing the DPI maybe I can give that a shot.

Increasing the Size of On-screen Fonts

To increase the size of on-screen fonts, do the following:

1. Click the Start button, type font, and click on Make text and other screen items larger or smaller
2. When the Display screen comes up, choose a new font size (Medium or Large), and click Apply
3. You will need to log off to make changes. When prompted, click Log off now
4. Log back in and the fonts will now be larger and easier to read
