I would appreciate some help on this one as I cannot seem to find a way of changing it.

I am running Win 7 Pro, IE 11 with PDF Reader as Foxit Reader Vers 6.

Whenever I choose a pdf file to download from the internet IE 11 automatically downloads to the download folder of which right thereafter the file is opened up into my pdf viewer.

How can I get a prompt requesting me on where I would like to save the file and then to navigate there at another time and open it from there.

Any help would be appreciated on where I should be looking.

Regards and thanks
Dave.

Thank you for the help. I was aware of those options.

I do notice though that if the file is a zip file or executable file then the option box appears asking where you want to save the file etc. This does not appear to be the case for a pdf as this is immediately saved to your specified folder and opened automatically.

It does not appear that there may be a option to change this so that it works as a .exe file or zip file.

Should any user have a work around I would be interested in hearing it.

Many thanks
Dave.

Go to Manage Addons in IE. If Foxit installed its addon into IE, that's probably what's causing your issue. Disable the addon, restart IE for good measure, and try again.

Thanks for the pointer. Checked the add on list with the "All Addons" option selected, but Foxit Reader is not selected.

Any other possible pointers would be helpful.

Hi. Yes thank you I did try that and that works, however I was hoping to not right click at all.

It appears that this may be a setting in Foxit Reader rather than IE in the end as the download option box asks whether I want to open or save the pdf should Foxit Reader not be installed. I had initially thought that it was a setting in IE but it appears that I might have been wrong.

It might be best that I just live with the work around option, I have in the meantime also posted the question to the foxit reader forum.

Many thanks
Dave

Hi,
Some people here do use Foxit reader,
But yes it would be a setting in foxit if it exists at all ?
I may ask to get your question moved to the software section and see if anyone there can help,
Cheers.

(someone called?)
I'm by no means certain it can be done easily - I usually use the right-click 'Save target as..' option to do this.

Hi All.

Thanks for your input much appreciated. Yes as I am thinking further about this I have discovered that it is a setting in Foxit Reader which appears to have been removed in the latest version or they have just changed the way it worked as previous versions operated differently.

It would be most likely easier to live with the right click option.

Much appreciate your help everyone it appears that it is most likely it cannot be done.

With thanks
Dave.

You could always use something like Iobit's Uninstaller or Geek Uninstaller to remove Foxit and ALL the files+registry entries it leaves behind, then install the latest version again. A download of a random PDF in the meantime will tell you if IE goes back to behaving "properly".

DO NOT use any IOBit software - without taking out insurance first!
I've seen too many people have problems after using their registry 'optimizers' and 'cleaners' - and other software.
