changing video cards and NVIDIA GeForce Experience

hey all,

im gonna be swapping out my 660 Ti for a GTX 1060 in a few days and i was wondering if i can keep the current drivers (v375.95) that are installed via the GeForce Experience.

1. will the GeForce Exp know i have a different video card and automatically find the appropriate drivers for it?
   
2. or should i just manually try and uninstall then reinstall whatever is the newest driver
   
3. and are the drivers universal across the GTX line of cards?

All need to be removed before you install the new card.
Windows will install a generic display driver so you can login but download the new driver for the new card before hand so you can manually install it after getting to the desktop
The cd that may come with the card is probably old anyway,

375.95 is the latest driver from nvidia

There is no reason to remove anything, just install the new card.

And the answer to #3 is yes, except for some older cards.

The only thing you may have to do is rescan for your games.

If they were universal they "NVidia" did a lot of separating version series for no reason at all
You can probably leave GE bloatware but the drivers associated with the old card would be best removed before installing the new one or at least I would.

The drivers for both cards are the same so I thinking it should be plug and play.

If for what ever reason it doesn't work please read this tutorial by essenbe.

Yep that's why the tutorial is how to Avoid problems and not how to Create problems with NVidia drivers

Exactly Jack, there is no reason to remove and then reinstall the same exact driver, just remove the 660 and install the 1060.

Don`t worry about a thing, nvidia will have another driver out before I can finish typing this sentence, so you`ll be installing that anyway

The thing is, the driver may not detect that driver causing the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter to be used. I know because I transitioned from a GeForce 210 to a GeForce GT 610 and the driver did not detect the GT 610 until I re-installed the driver. There's a possibility that the driver will detect your GTX 1060 and save you from the hassle of installing the driver again.
