Although we have moved mostly into the 21st century, we do occasionally need to print checks. For that purpose, I had been using VersaCheck 2007. The nice features of this program are a) that you do not need preprinted checks, and b) it works with both Quicken and QuickBooks.
Needless to say, this program does not work under Windows 7 x64. I tried to install it using XP Mode, but that installation failed as well.
The publisher, G7 Productivity Systems, has a new version, but... With the new version, you have to pay a per-check fee if you do not buy the blank paper from them. (And they will get sued for this as there is no mention of this on the outside of the box...) Anyway, I will not do business with them - I am not going to pay, again, for the check paper I have.
I found several other solutions, but all are crazy expensive. One of them seemed reasonable, $20, but for Quicken only. The version that can deal with QuickBooks is $80 (and the only difference between them is the line of code in the cheaper version to block input from QuickBooks).
So, my questions, after this long-winded drivel are this:

- Can you suggest some means by which I can get my current software working? I do have an XP server on my network and installed the software on that machine. As you would expect, the software creates a virtual printer device which I shared. However, I could not install that printer on the Windows 7 machine as the drivers are not available.
- Failing #1, can you recommend a software package to replace VersaCheck?
