I was having very slow (>1mb/s) data transfer from and to this drive so I am running the Error Check option from the device properties menu. I have only the first box, "automatically fix file system errors", checked.
This is a Western Digital 600GB 7200RPM Black HDD.

so far i have had it running for over an hour and it's processed 18k files, and there is just a sliver of green in the progress bar.

I had a problem like this before with this drive. Just last week I installed an new ssd as my OS drive and had some problems with this HDD. It was extending boot up times by an additional 20 seconds, and would transfer data very very slowly. I was able to run a check disk from within explorer and, although slow at first, it eventually finished and the drive seemed to operate fine.

I;m going to wait this out a bit longer, but I guess I'm asking if there is anything else i can do.

Well doing a disk check can in fact take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on how many errors it has to fix if there are any and the size of
The drive.

thanks for the reply.
I'll let it go overnight I guess and hope for the best. It's been about 10 hours and it's 75% through.
I'm just worried that this keeps happening. My sandra report said the disk was ok, but then this goes and happens again.
