Chinese Files eating up Hard Drive Space

Hi Guys im new, so please if i have placed this into the wrong forum please let me know.

anyways my desktop at home is being plagued by these chinese files that are huge and i cant seem to get rid of them. does anyone know what they are or how to get rid of them?

Welcome to Seven Forums mikeherbosa. What is the complete paths to these files? C:\Windows\ correct?

Right click on one of the files and look at the Properties, see if any clues.

You might also try Space Sniffer, which lets you double click on files and get down to date created and such. I'm thinking these are created by a backup program? I know I have seen this before, but can't for the life of me find it. I see UNNeroBackitup.exe listed there as well. What does that feature do?

It would be helpful to know what Antivirus you are running as Avira had a similar issue last year after a major update. Properties of the said files might be able to point to a solution.
Have you tried to open one in a text editor to see what they contain?
lastly do you have any flash drives attached to your PC? There have been some odd issues with the Cheap Chinese Flash Drives containing malware.

Just a thought.
Could their of been a program installed that came with a language package.
I have no idea how to run it down in a system.
I.E. pdf reader, ebook program,Iobit anything ect.

I have just had an idea maybe no good but run HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < get the right bit version and run it > close the right hand window > click on +Memory > open it out click and highlight the row and in the left hand window what info comes up?? see pic

Hmm Derek I jys noticed too that the other refs are 0.0 GB!! so what the heck is in them??

P Noticed also this is that Treesize program if that ahs any meaning to anyone??

Reading a bit more this is one of those programs I think are not that good - it come with SpamAssasin as well which smacks of something not quite the full dollar.

but that is just my opinion.

The selected view above is set to GB, those 0.0 GB are because the files are under 100 MB, actually they might register if they were at 51 MB in size, showing as 0.1 GB.

Explorer is only a little over 2 MB so it's well below that, it would show if there were more digits displayed, 0.003 GB.

Yeah, I noticed that it's tree size free too.

It's just the view setting at the top, it's set to view in GB and those files are under the minimum size to be recognized at 0.1 GB.

It is from these people Layback I have used some of heir stuff on my tester at home but have just had to get rid of it as it really is not much chop.

Well mohavepc I did ask for some specs early on but none forthcoming and if you open the OP's system specs the OP says "7 Ultimate I think" and other stuff that makes not much sense.
So jus have a look and see.

I saw that John and I was just mentioning it in case the op comes back and still wants help. I'm getting to a point that if they are not willing to fully disclose what parts they are running and so forth I bow out. Makes no sense to best guess this kind of issue.

I only responded because of a request for help in VIP.

In Treesize, click on View then Show Details. Check Show directory tree and details column. That will give you a lot more info about each file. Looks like this:



Of special interest is the Owner column at far right.

Yes Z but mate the info on the system is very sketchy as you can see if you open his specs section, I ma just wondering just what is in the machine.
Like mohavepc I think I might duck out too as there is no info forthcoming.
