I recently downloaded and installed the chipset driver for my NVIDIA board. After installation, however, my screen resolution defaulted to 1024x768. I have a 9800 GT so I prompted to change the resolution back but I couldn't! I had to un-install the chipset in order to revert back to my usual resolution. Is this chipset driver even really needed? I could run everything fine before.

The usual way is to install the chipset drivers first then the video ones. But of course since this isnt a new install you had no choice. Probably best to uninstall chipset and video drivers then reinstall in that order.
