CHKDSK 2% complete after 18 hours

Hey guys,

My problem was that startup repair wasn't workiing and was in loop, i tried everything and didnt know what to do, anyways i was bored so i kept trying the infinite loop tutorial several times only to see I/o errors..... I kept trying one got through so i closed the cmd and reatarted the laptop only to find the CHKDSK waiting, i thought this was good but it has taken 18 hours to get to 2% complete and its only in stage 1

Anybody got any reccomendations, i really dont wanna lose the stuff on my HDD

Copy all files to another partition and format the partition that has the problem.

I would but i cant get to the desktop, plus i cant get into safe mode....

You can download this Rescue Kit Free Edition | PARAGON Software Group - free partition software, hard disk partitioning, get the free one.

Burn (not copy) the .iso file to a CD or DVD. Boot your computer with the disc you made. During the boot process watch for a key to start from a CD or a key to enter your Bios and change the boot order to make the CD the first boot device.

One of the features of the Rescue Disc is the File Transfer Wizard, use this to copy your files to a USB drive. While your at it, see if the Boot Corrector feature can fix any problems.

The file i downloaded was a .exe file?? Is this what i burn to the disk??

Yes, run it as Admin and it will walk you through burning a CD>

You can also use the WIn7 DVD System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk to attempt to copy out your files: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run Startup Repair from the DVD or Repair CD which is more stable. If it stalls out again running Disk Check then run it from the Command Line.

If these fail, you can sometimes repair a failing HD and get a definitive diagnosis using the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check if necessary.
