Hello Win 7
If chkdsk will not run when you click error check at Computer, what is the command prompt that will do it instead.
I am looking for the two replacements only. One is the default with one check at computer and the second is if you were to insert a check at the default at computer.
When I surf for this I get too much information rendering it useless to me at my level.

Thank you

When you try to run chkdsk, you will always get:

>chkdsk c: /f
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

So reply Y then reboot. Chkdsk will run during the reboot.

There is no way to make chkdsk run while the system is booted.

Windows chkdsk

I used to go to computer and click propeties, tools, error checking and clicking on it. It asked you to reboot and chkdsk would run at boot.

However, sometimes, when the pc has rebooted it says, "Chkdsk has been canceled and will not run.
I could not get it to run sometimes. I learned a couple of ways to do it;
1-click error checking more than once
2-system restore
3-run the command prompt that I had unfortunately forgotten.

When I searched, the commands I got were too confusing.
If chkdskspaceC:space/f is the command to use to get it to work, I will make note of it and thank you..
(without the words space)
