chkdsk conflict with system restore Windows 7

I have a conflict between the CHKDSK utility and system restore. When running CHKDSK it reports that it can not open volume for direct access and autochk can not run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package.It instructs to use the system restore feature from the control panel to restore
the system toa point prior to the recent software package installation.An unspecified error occured

The following are recent software installatios that created new restore points:
12/9/2014 Windows update Critical update
12/7/2014 configured microsoft flight simulator X
12/5/2014 Device driver paackage install,Avast network.
12/5/2014 avast anti virus system restore point.

When I ran system restore it failed with a notice that Windows has detected file system corruption on HP C:, " You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored."

Here is my problem. Both check disk and system restore need to be runned but neither will run until the other has run. How can I overcome this "loop" that has me caught in their conflict?

It sounds like your hard drive is beginning to fail. Back up your stuff. Then go the website of your hard drive manufacturer and test your drive.

I was afraid that would be the answer. I guess I should get eady to replace my HDD.

If you have a Repair Disc (created from the maintenance - I think - start menu) try booting that disc and run

chkdsk /f

You can also use an installation disc (select repair computer, then Command Prompt)

You can also use Partition Wizard to check your disk
