Solved chkdsk failure primary partition (access denied)

Hi

I noticed this problem when I tried to delete something off the drive, then I tried to run an antivirus scan and it gave me an error if incapacity to delete viruses due to a dirty disk and that I should run chkdsk.

So I right clock on the drive and attempt check now. It tells me that it must first dismount the drive before it can do so and asks if I would like to force a dismount. To which I respond yes. Then, the window disappears and I hear no word or see no signs of any chkdsk happening. Naturally I reboot the terminal expecting fire-works and chemistry, but get greeted by the sound of windows starting up again.

I have tried the administrator driven command prompt in this sequence. C:\Windows\System32>chkdsk x:/f

It does the same thing in safemode commad prompt and in safe mode... PLease HELP!

Hello, not sure if you're still having issues with this but I'm currently following steps to fix the same issue. Here's what has worked for me so far:

Click the start icon>type disk management>right click the drive you are having issues with>change driver letters and paths

Next, click remove and accept. (Make sure you remember the drive letter) This will force dismount the drive.

RESTART: this is critical for me so far. If you don't reset, it doesn't seem to work.

after reboot, open disk management and do the same thing to the drive, except this time you should click "add" instead of "remove" then choose the same drive letter it was before.

Open CMD as ADMINISTRATOR, then type the drive letter (example D

this sets CMD to that drive.

Type chkdsk /r

it should prompt you to to say Y/N (it might say the volume cannot lock, just give it a minute or two)about dismounting the drive again. select Y.

This is the step I am currently on. It should say "volume is verifying files and folders..."

let this sit for a while. The time depends on the storage amount in use.

I will post and let you know if this finishes up for me. I will probably end up letting it run overnight as the drive is 3TB.

I actually had this solved Last year already... I'm good. I think I backed it up and formatted it. No issues since
