Solved Chkdsk Freezing at "SDs/SIDS processed"

Hi,

Recently when starting up my laptop, I get prompted to run chkdsk. Now when I go to do that it goes through all the checks, "inserts index entries" etc, and then at the end it says "**** file SDs/SIDS processed" and just stays at that point and doesn't go any further. Has it just frozen or crashed or does this just take a long time? Should I be looking at getting a new hard drive, or is there anything else I can do? For now, if I skip the chkdsk and log in my laptop seems to work fine with no issues. Is it just a matter of time before it stops working completely?

Two things to try:

This may help, run the steps outlined in this tutorial, Option Two, and reboot the system:

You may get this result:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

Or a message that no integrity violations were found.
Or that Windows Resource Protection found errors it cannot repair. If one more run won't fix it, we'll try another thing.

RAM (memory) test:

This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+​

Tried the first thing, got the message "Windows Resource protection did not find any integrity violations". Restarted the laptop and was prompted to do the chkdsk again.

I downloaded the seagate tools, did the SMART Check, short generic and the short drive self test and it passed them all. Reluctant to do the long generic or the fix all as I haven't backed up any data yet.

Try this too, download this: CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World and open the program and follow the steps in this snip. If the button says "Good" you don't do anything.

Run the Long Generic Test and see what it says.

Well then it seems the HDD is OK.

Try this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html#post2010 Option 2, chkdsk /f IT will ask you to run at the next boot, let it run and see if it will complete.

Just restarted my laptop, went through the process again and it completed this time round. Thanks for your help!
