Hi all, this is my first post, i found you by searching for info on dual booting Win 7 and Win XP and found your excellent tutorial which i started to go through step by step, i didnt get very far !!!!

First off i tried to Shrink Volume and it suggested that my drive was corrupted !!!! and i should choose to run "check errors" at the next START UP, i have now re-started at least 3 times, i choose to run "check errors" at next start up, but nothing happens, so i cant progress to the next step until i obviously get past this first step to "shrink volume" !!!!!

any ideas anyone. please.

The flag needs to be reset.

To do so, from Windows, run from an elevated command prompt:

chkdsk /r C:

for the drive in question. Change C to match the letter.

You said that with chkdsk, nothing happened. I assume that it did not chk the disc, rather than it checked but did not correct errors.

If I am correct, the above instructions, also may not perform the check, either.

Possibly this, will not perfom the check either, but you can also try, cmd (from search) then type sfc /scannow. This must be done from an administrator account.

thanks lads fir your prompt response. no luck yet though !

I tried both of those suggestions, but despite being the only User and being Logged on as administrator it says

"Access denied, you dont have enough privileges, you have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode"

and

"you must be an administrator running a console session to use the sfc utility".

Open another account as administrator, if you can. Maybe some suggestions will work from that account.

I couldnt add another administrator account, it now seems my hard drive might be corrupt somewhere, i have started a new post on this problem, thanks for the suggestions though.
