Chrome opening undesired tabs - how to stop it?

There is a certain website that I keep opened within a tab of my Chrome browser as I use it several times along the day.

However this site has an annoying codification which makes it keep opening an extra tab with ad contents when I click anywhere in the page (it may be a link or even at a blank spot). It is not always but kind of random in a way that some times I may click and it won't open any tab. But if I leave the page alone for a while it certainly WILL open a new tab on my next click. In any way this is very annoying.

The popup and redirects blocker feature of Chrome is activated and also I installed an extension called Adlock to help. It seems to have reduced the amount of times that it opens the new tab but it still will occur and now instead to have full contents the tab quickly flashes what seems to be an image in the center and right after it changes to a blank page with 'ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT' message.

In short it didn't improve too much the behavior of my browser because it still opens a new tab forcing me to manually close it. I'd like to completely terminate the automatic opening of new tabs.

Any clue?

Would help us to know the "certain website" you are referring to.

So that I/we can try a solution before we present it to you. I do not use Chrome, I only use it to help you and others that have issues with it, as you are having.

You can Private Message (PM) me if you wish.

Some Websites I visit do the same thing, & I have tried quite a few add-ons etc. in an attempt to stop it.

I prefer Firefox Quantum, and use it pretty much exclusively.

It's a torrent directory from where I download TV series episodes to watch with my wife. While it's not a big deal in my country I think that it shouldn't be a good idea to share it here due to the Seven Forums policies (even through PM).

But see this is not the point. The point is that knowing what website is producing this effect is not important in any case. It sounds like to post a question in a car forum about flat tires and someone wants to know how long the thread starter is licensed as a driver. There is no relevance. LoL!

:roflmao:

Anyway, I'll try Firefox Quantum and see what happens.

Thanks!

Whatever! Thank you for the additional info nonetheless.

Don't agree with your analogy reference to an automobile as you will read my reason for the website request. My opinion last paragraph.

As I said, I have the same issue with some Websites with Firefox so I don't believe using FF will resolve you issues. I find it very annoying for me when links/pages do that!!

It is my opinion that the Website coders purposely coded for click bait, that is they get monetary compensation every time an advertisers page is opened. The links & clicking on an area of the page triggers the actions.

I'm not sure if you can block the element in the HTML source code for the page. That is why I was inquiring as to the website. I was going to attempt to block the element function(s) and test the results. If my efforts were successful, I would post what I did on your thread.

I appreciate your attention. I installed FFQ yesterday and it didn't solve the problem.

Being a coder myself I know that such behavior is caused by sites using Javascript and in this case the event that triggers the tab opening is the simple mouse click (regardless where you click it). I think that this is something I will have to live with.

Fortunately this is not a BIG deal, just annoying... Usually whenever I am going to use this site (a few times a day when I check the updates) I just give it a couple clicks anywhere before to look what I really want to allow it to open the useless tabs. Then I immediately strike CTRL+F4 to close it even before it show any contents...

I agree with the annoying. It's almost as annoying as RoboCalls on my VOIP landline! IMHO!

Tell me about landlines. We had ours for decades till we quit it and move to mobiles. Not a big improvement but at least now we can bring the shit together.
