Clean install of a Windows 7 Pro OEM on a second hand workstation

He should not have to do that if it`s an older PC and using a dvd.

That message most always comes from a corrupt install dvd or a dvd burned too fast.

Without an activation key he is most likely screwed anyway, he can try to pull the key from the current install, if he hasn`t messed that up already and try to use it for activation, it might work it might not.

Brian, it's a Xeon MB and the chipset requires a SATA driver that it's not on the Win 7 installation disk.

The key is an OEM SLP, so he most likely can`t use it :(

Luiz, I `ve installed 7 on dozens (not gonna say hundreds) of PC`s with a Xeon CPU using the dvd. HP`s Dell`s etc, never had an issue.

So right now I'm trying to eliminate the DVD media problem.

The md5 is correct, I found it here: forums.mydigitallife.info somewhere..

And I run a test on the DVD; there are no errors, the DVD matches the ISO file.

Should I still burn it at a low speed ? This wouldn't make any sense to me.

Should I do as requested, and try to provide the installer with a driver for my DVD drive ? Windows is using cdrom.sys and iaStorF.sys according to device manager.

Its full name is hp DVD-RAM GHA3N SCSI CdRom Device

At this point I'm going to try everything.. Please, provide a link for an us-eng image with a checksum if possible. I already have a checksum'd french ISO file for W7 PRO COEM.7

Also the seller didn't really answer me about that installation media. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because it's Sunday

Do you think it's too much to ask the seller to have a proper installation media, or a clear method to create my own ?

So I made some progress.. Using a USB Flash drive, I provided the installers with the AHCI then the LSI for the SAS drives, and I could go forward with the installer.

I finally entered the "6P6GT" activation key, which led to a "C004E003" error.

OK . The seller provided me with a link to an HP Windows 7 Pro image, on a very unreliable cloud storage service. I have to download over HTTPS a 5 GiB image without interruption because it doesn't support resuming. TBH I'm about to give up on Windows 7. But thanks to all for your help, it was useful.

If you are trying to use the activation key that was on the original install as you got it, it will not work, that key is an OEM SLP key which is used by the manufacturer.

And since you acquired the PC second hand, and since the is no COA anywhere on the PC, you are left with only 1 alternative. (as far as I know that is) Install a free version of Linux.

Or of course you could always buy Windows 7 Pro. Or contact the manufacturer to see if they sell Recovery Discs.

Why your asking.

Coz its a business workstation that was sold with W8 BUT with downgrade rights
There would NOT have been a W7 COA, the purchaser (company) would have requested that OS to be installed prior to shipping, evidenced by the Mgadiag, it also tells me that W10 was available as well.
(note the company would have been given a set of re-installation discs)
