Clean Reinstall of Asus U45JC-A1 Laptop

Im going to do the same with my asus laptop.

I assume here i just download the wireless drivers? The dell xps 8100 you told me to onlly download the wired driver and wireless wasn't necessary. Do i have to download all 6 of these wireless drivers? Or is it only the first one?

Yes, click User CP at top of page you're on, then Edit Options on left hand toolbar, then select a higher number of posts per page in the dropdown menu toward the bottom.

You may need to extract the files first by rightclicking to Extract, otherwise rightclick to Run as Admin.

It says clearly in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to look in Device Manager for which brand wireless Network Adapter you have so you know which one to backup. You are going to need to slow down and read these steps to understand them first, Pauly, not just skate past them.

Why is it when i tried to detect it in asus website none of the drives show any of these?

Okay doing this on the asus laptop is very different.

After pressing setup in the usb, it ask if i want to go online to get the updates or not. I choose yes.

Then it ask me which hard drive i want to install windows

Disk 0 partition 1: os (c) 232.9 gb totall size 115.gb free space

I dont see an option to delete this like i did with the dell xps 8100...

All i see is refresh, load driver or next....

Have asus u45jc-a1 laptop. I recently did a clean reinstall of windows 7 on my dell xps 8100 using these steps

I was told even though i have the dell cd for my xps 8100 and the asus reinstallation cd, dont use it as it has bloatware which is what i dont want.

Rigth now im on the screen and not sure wha im suppose to do. Im sure i cant click next b/c if i do... then i wont be deleting the old windows files right? Also i went to disk management and see if i could right click and delete the partition drive but it doesnt allow that option.

It is obviously the Atheros wireless adapter which you need to download from the Asus Downloads webpage for your exact model.

Once again you are not following the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 or you would have booted the installer. It is not booted or you wouldn't have the Updates choice.

To boot the stick tap F8 immediately after you see the Asus logo on black screen. This should open a boot menu for you to find the stick under USB, REmovable or HD's. Select it by pressing Enter.

Okay sorry about that. I did not recall thats how you boot it.


Okay so i deleted that partition. Then i saw 232.9gb total and free. I then just clicked next... the only other option was new. Then it said there was an error.


Now im at the page where do you want to install windows


disk 0 partition 1: system reserved 100mb total size 86mb free space system
disk 0 partition 2 232.8gb total size 232.gb free space primary


Am i suppose to format disk 0 partition 1?

Or just click next now? I assume the error i had earlier was because i only had one partition showing?

Also why is the total size and free space not the same for each partition? I know for the dell xps 8100 it is...

This is why its important to follow the steps. Use them as a checklist. That way you know you don't forget anything or get distracted.

Did you back up your files following the steps in the tutorial? If you follow those steps then nothing will be left behind. If you have proceeded without backing up files then you need to stop and ask for special help now to undelete C to rescue files.

When you get to that screen you are to delete all partitions so that only Unallocated Space is shown. Then just click Next unless you have a specfiic partition scheme.

Pauly, I am disappointed if you are not following the tutorial. Are these other people's computers you are reinstalling because you are acting recklessly if you don't follow the steps, which is what caused all the problems previously.

I don't have any files that i want to save on this laptop. Thus want to wipe everything away.

yes i deleted all those partitions.

And i all i see on this screen now is


disk 0 parititon 1 100mb total 86mb free
disk 0 partition 2 232.8gb total 232.gb free


No all the reinstalls i did ever was with my old laptops. I never got it right. Also i had ppl that did reinstall of window for me previously. However... none of them ever did it right either so thats why i ask this.

OK, now highlight partition 2 and click Format from the Drive Options in bottom right, then Next.

I can't click anything on partition 2. Only thing is next.

Only parittion 1 can i click delete or format.

Sounds like you're not booted into installer. Did you boot the installer from Asus boot key which is normally F8 key at boot to choose the Kingston Stick. Your model may be different so check the Manual.


Do you have the Drive Options tools shown in Steps 7 and 8?

Did you Delete all partitions to create New, to format and install to partition 2?

I pressed f2 i believe and then clicked on the kingston usb 2.0 when screen with many options poped up. So yes im sure i did it right as oppose to earlier when i made the mistake of just clicking it directly.

When i highlight partition 2... they all greyed out. Its just refresh and load driver that isn't greyed.

When i highlight parititon 1... i could click on everything except new. I did click on format earlier but that didnt do anything as is still show 100mb total and 86mb free.

I clicked next. What im bit confused is why it shows 100mb total and 86mb free in parition 1 and 232.8gb total and 232.2gb free in partition 2. Shouldn't it be 100mb and 100mb and 232.8gb and 232.2gb? The dell xps 8100 was like that so not sure why this isn't.

Could that be sign of virus? im pretty sure my usb have viruses which is why i formatted both of them before i did this. Also this asus laptop is very slow and im position it has viruses and it has lot of malware as well so im a bit skeptital why the 100mb and 232.8gb isn't the same for free space as total space.

Windows cannot install required file Make sure all files required for insallation are available and restart the installation

Im thinking this has to do with me stupidly cancellating the install earlier.

F2 would only get you into BIOS setup where you can choose the device to boot first. WHile you can choose the Kingston stick there to set it first to boot, its better to keep the hard drive set first to boot and then use the Asus boot key which is normally F8 key at boot to choose the Kingston Stick. Your model may be different so check the Manual.

This is because if you set the Kingston Stick first to boot in F2 BIOS setup you will need to unplug it when it reboots during the middle of the install or else it will start all over again.

So reboot and keep tapping the F8 key vigorously before you even see the first boot screen to get the Asus boot menu. If that doesn't work reboot into F2 to set the stick first to boot. But you have to save the setting and exit then watch for prompt to boot stick when it starts up.
