I'm using an hp computer with Windows 7. I use ie 9 as my browser. Whne I open tools, or click on the gear wheel I get the option to "view downloads". I click on clear list to get rid of the ones I don't want, or I clear the whole file. The list does clear. But the next time I open the browser and go to view downloads, the same items are still there. How do I clear them so they don't reappear? Do I need to go into the registry editor?

deleting view downloads.

I've been doing that in conjunction with deleting them the way I described. Frankly, I don't know how they can continually reappear. Truly has me puzzled...

Could you post a screenshot of your View downloads window to see if something may standout?

Since Internet Explorer History is included in the index by default, see if rebuilding the index may be able to help.

I don't know how to attach the View Downloads graph that comes up when I open internet options or click on the gear wheel. I can assue you it's no different than anyone else's that I've seen. Like I stated, I clear the contents, it goes away, but as soon as I open the browser again and open "view downloads" the just deleted download is there again. Is there somewhere in regedit that I can go to manually delete them that way?

Nothing in the registry for this that I know of.

Did you try rebuilding the index?

If so, try completely resetting IE.

downloads

Okay, I tried all that, reset everything, etc. As soon as I open my browser the old download is still there. What about uninstalling / reinstalling ie? Think that would do anything? PS: I use Norton and have run complete system scans. No viruses I'm aware of. Computer runs fine. This problem doesn't seem to interfere with anything, just pisses me off I can't correct the situation. Also, I tried deleting the file from the folder and yet it still reappears...

If a complete reset of IE didn't help, then I'm not sure uninstalling/reinstalling it would either.

As a test, create a new administrator account, and see if it still does it while logged on to the new account as well.

Well, I deleted the old account and opened a new admin account. So far, no problems. I guess something was corrupted in the other account. Wish I could've figured it out. Thanks, all....

That's great news. Yeah, it would have been nice to know the exact cause to be able to hopefully have a fix for it. Hopefully we'll get it figured out one day. :)
