Hi,
Afraid I wont be long here. Speeding up Samsung Netbook for locked down 83 year old who fancies becoming computer literate before he falls off coil .
.
Cloned 120gb SSD from 200Gb HDD - went fine. When I swapped in the SSD then on boot got "Cannot detect Op Sys". BIOS showed SSD in boot position 2 with" USB N/A" at 1. Made SSB Number 1 boot position cos I could think of nothing else to do. Still getting no op sys message. Out of desperation I USB attached the original HDD, changed the boot order and op sys booted ok. Dismounted the USB HDD expecting a crash ( I am not well versed in this kind of thing)---and all was well! The computer was much faster so clearly looking at SSD which surprised me
.
Problem: When I reboot it goes to :

Windows Boot Manager

Windows 7 (highlighted/selected)
Windows 7 Starter (recovered)

status: 0xc0000000e
Boot selection failed because required device inaccessible.

The message is Windows failed to start. Recent hardware or software change likely reason and insert installation disc etc
When I select Windows 7 Starter (recovered) then she is up and running like a ripper!

Any idea what I can do in the BIOS that will boot up without visiting this page. I would not be bothered myself but the box is for an 83 year old who has never laid hands on a computer in his life and the less he has to do to get at Youtube etc then the better.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. To clone a drive to ssd there are other steps you need. the ssd needs to be sata 3 and ahci in the bios and some cmds need to be done to setup the drive in windows. When you cloned the drive did you do the whole drive not just c and did you clone or copy the partition which would not copy the boot sector what did you clone it with? most ssd drives the makers supply free on their site their own clone software. there are lots of guides on Youtube or see Migrating an existing Windows 7 installation to an SSD | Swarley's Blog

That message often indicates the bcd entry is pointing at the wrong place.

Type msconfig.exe into start search box. click it when it pops up.

Under the boot tab set Windows 7 Starter as the default - then click apply - then click ok..

Delete the errant Windows 7 entry - then click apply - then click ok.

Exit with or without restart - doesn't matter. On next reboot it should boot up without offering the menu.

Thank you for your reply. I am obliged to you.

Yours in ""-

" the ssd needs to be sata 3 and ahci in the bios ".
BIOS indicates - 1. AHCI HDD : PNY CS900 120GB SSD

"some cmds need to be done to setup the drive in windows"
Could you let me know the commands and order ?

"When you cloned the drive did you do the whole drive not just c and did you clone or copy the partition which would not copy the boot sector"
The entire drive was cloned. All partitions were represented and written to SSD albeit reduced sizes as SSD smaller than HDD.

"What did you clone it with?"
easeus.com Partition Manager

"most ssd drives the makers supply free on their site their own clone software"
Disk used:
PNY- CS900 2.5" Internal SSD - 120GB ....and....

Google search for "PNY cloning software"produced:
Prime PNY SSD Cloning Software in Windows - AOMEI Backupper
....wherein it is suggested that AOMEI BACKUP STANDARD be used.

Notwithstanding the Commands that need to be done to setup the drive in windows (mentioned by yourself above) would you consider that my problem lies in not using AOMEI BACKUP STANDARD? If so, can I delete disk contents (Unallocate) and redo with AOMEI?

Regards

Clear the disk then try the backup as suggested by disk makers see if it works then we will sort out the other things
