I have a Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3 motherboard with an on board header for a true serial port, running Win 7 64 bit Pro. This has worked fine connected to a back panel socket for years but now it no longer works. I also have a card in this PC with 4 additional true serial ports. and these work fine. I need to pull out the tower case and check the connector to the MB header hasn't come off, but I have my doubts that this would cause this problem as I see this in Device Manager (below). Would anyone be able to please advise as whether the MB has an issue in itself? I have checked the port is enabled in the BIOS and it is, and I have tried disabling and re-enabling to no effect. At the moment nothing is connected to COM1 on the back panel, but when it was it appeared to be no workie :( Thanks.

Often there is a conflict of irq or dma on com ports so worth checking there is no conflicts

Thanks, I did remember conflicts from my DOS days and I see this, but whether I am checking correctly or adequately I am not sure. I appreciate your very fast reply! :)
