Comp. Immediately Crashes. Safe mode = Ok.

Whew...so far, no immediate crashes with verifier running, ethernet cable in, and adapter out.
I'm still anticipating a crash though(I wish I didn't have to say that)

However, I have experienced windows freezing for 5 seconds or so, then a black screen, before the display restores itself. This is tied to a notification of "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" that pops up. This has happened before I ran verifier though.

I'll report back with information within two days most likely

You might try installing updated ATI drivers from here: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software

If that doesn't help, we may be looking at possible video trouble.

Well I'm on my phone.
Inevitably it crashed, but there was no error code like usb bug code error. Odd I guess.
Staring at startup repair, to no avail of course, but it doesn't hurt.

Ill upload the jcgriff thing when this stops.

I will also make sure I have the latest driver.

What do you mean that it could possibly be a "video" error specifically?

Edit: It specifically bsod'd while I was watching a youtube video, this seems like a common time for them to happen.

One verifier_enabled dump points to memory corruption, a good indication of hardware trouble. The other verifier_enabled dump points to your video driver atikmdag.sys.

Do install updated drivers from here: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software
Code:
atikmdag.sys Wed Jan 26 17:48:28 2011 (4D40A4BC)

What do you mean that it could possibly be a "video" error specifically?
I gave a euphemistic alternative to "a hardware problem", as "video error" doesn't sound so bad. :)

Oh man haha, what an ordeal.

I installed the latest catalyst 11.5 drivers, and haven't crashed yet. However I haven't done much that requires any 'video' work or anything. I'll go play some games and watch youtube for awhile. I'll report back soon.

I also installed Pale Moon, a 64bit browser, along with the 64bit version of flash. Thought the problem could be my browser or flash version...maybe... =/

Nooooo..........
It was running fine for a whole day, but just now it happened while browsing the web - no video or anything. There wasn't an error code on the screen again.

Unless it's a faulty mobo, I don't really know what to try next.

Edit: One more happened while I was waiting.

Double Edit: WHY ME!!! STOP IT TECHNOLOGY GOD!!! I really hate this.

An edit won't suffice for this post.
I'll try to make this easy to understand.

*sigh*

Event Number...
1) Start up, some browsing...Bsod, restart
2) some browsing...Bsod, restart (this time I think was when I was watching youtube fullscreen, may be of no importance)
3) some browsing...Bsod, restart
4) "Display driver stopped working and has been recovered", Three times
5) Seconds after ^ that problem was recovered, screen goes black. Restart.
6) #4 message, one after the other, with no time inbetween freezes to do anything.
7) Instead of a successful display driver recovery, Bsod. Restart into safe mode with networking.

I'm now accepting the possible requirement of purchasing new hardware. RMA's are fine too. :picnic:

Should I keep driver verifier on? I think it may of turned itself off, or I did without thinking.
I could do a complete clean install. I already did a windows reinstall, but didn't wiped the hard drive first

Edit: Display driver incompatability?
Edit edit: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=668192 Similar problems...suggests an Rma. Sorry I'm getting ahead of you haha...

That's what I was thinking. However... =/
When I bought the video card I mailed in the rebate to Sapphire, but this required me to cut out the barcode. Which I would need for Sapphire's two year warranty. Not only that, but they charge up to 30$ extra along with shipping to have it replaced.
Also, Newegg's one month warranty is up.

I'm gonna email sapphire Rma service and ask them what I can do. I'm going to also call newegg and see if they would be so kind to rma it.

I'm never falling for rebates again, it's garbage.

This is really painful.

I managed to get an RMA with sapphire. I sent the card back and on the way home picked up a cheap geforce 8400gs. I installed the cd's drivers before going to their website to get the latest drivers. When they were downloading I Bsod'd with memory management. I then installed them in safe mode.

I doubt the drivers and everything is the problem though, I'm just saying what I've done. I took out one set of the ram sticks so I only have 4 gigs right now. I even replaced my hard drive sata cable with another thinking the cable is sending bad information or something.

Hello again,

Sorry for the long delay; I started a new job and put the forum threads on the back burner. :o

Try burning an Ubuntu Live CD: Download | Ubuntu

Boot from that, selecting "Try Ubuntu with no changes...", and see if you get any trouble. If so, you may start looking at the motherboard. It seems like this is a certain hardware error, but you're ruling out my best guesses. All we can do at this point is swap and observe.

Alright, but before I do that, I think I may have solved it.
It was one of the problems/solutions you suggested awhile back; the ram.
I don't believe we looked at the ram settings in the bios, but I personally tried to do some research on it.
The very first thing I saw was that the ram wasn't set by default to the product specs on newegg's site. I set them to the egg's specifications but I still crashed.
I later found that on each module itself had the timings and voltages info with the serial # on the little sticker. These settings were different than the settings given on the webpage. Inconvenient and odd...I set them to those specs but I'd still crash. I googled the serial number and found more settings for my sets that were still different, I changed the settings again and haven't crashed yet.
I've found a lot of other threads with problems relating to different ram sets and my mobo. I suppose it's picky with timings.

However I'm still waiting for my Rma'd sapphire card to get back.

All the power to you for checking back on the threads since you've been gone.
Good luck on the new job :)

Oh man. Remember me?:sarc:
Well, I've gotten my video card back. I've set everything up and over the four days I've had it I've had two blue screens.
One was while I was playing Oblivion, and the other while I was just on the web.

So I'm not sure where to go from here. I've called asus support at currently I'm waiting a call back from them within 24 hours.

Should I change any bios settings regarding the ram? Because the settings I have right now are for the normal 2x2 (4GB) set, but I do have two of those sets in...8GB...

jcgriff attached...

Try taking out one of the sets of RAM, and use only the 4GB for a while. See if that helps any.

Also, you might try sticking the other video card back in.

Try putting the old card back in, and leave the RAM and BIOS settings as they are. Perhaps we can narrow things down a bit.
