Outlook express is no more.
I guess I'm assuming you do not want Outlook?
IMHO, Mozilla Thunderbird is an excellent client. No ad-ware. It can even connect to an Exchange Server, if you desired. I use it on Linux, but works equally well on Windows 7.

After giving up on MS I got onto Fox Mail. Easy to configure & import settings. Works for me. Gave thunderbird a go & others but fox mail was the easiest to setup for me.

The replacement for Outlook Express is Windows Live Mail and is part of
Windows Live Essentials

When you install it will give you a choice of a number of free programs from MS. I use Live Mail, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.

the win7 64bit toshiba does not have vista or any other mail software on it!
i have a vista 64 computer - do i copy from that?

No, you can d/l it for 7. Never copy a program, b/c of registry issues.

After updating Fox Mail & not liking what happened, it turned chinese on me & wouldn't change back to english, I've now got Thunderbird up & running.

Liking it a lot better than Fox Mail. The only drawback was losing my mail which for me is not that big of a deal.

Fox Mail also does not get into the registry so that windows can set it as a default mail program which was another reason to dump iot.

I've always thought how ridiculous it is to use to use all these extraneous systems, with Windows7, when there are perfectly good applications that are designed for use with the system, no wonder you're always complaining about the oddball applications.

The perfect combination is IE8, and Windows Live Mail. all completly compatible.

1) Agree. Both do work perfectly well (after you get used to them).
2) Outlook Express with the speed of IE6 on Win 98!

I have an old HP laptop with Win98, OE and IE6. Just for fun I connected it to my router with 16 meg download speed and compared the speed with my Win 7, Win Live Mail and IE8.
My new Win7 set is at least twice as fast if not more.

Of course it is. It's the improved hardware. The older software is much more efficient (less bloated) so it was able to work on a computer with a 133 MHz original Pentium processor and was a speed demon at 450 MHz.

I generally agree with you. I got rid of Zone Alarm and Avast Free and switched to the built in firewall and MSE instead and have been much happier. I also uninstalled ScreenHunter and much prefer the new built in Snipping Tool.

But when it comes to email, I'm still mourning the loss of Outlook Express... and Windows Live Mail is not an appropriate substitute for me. Unless someone can tell me how to use it effectively with six email accounts. The account issue makes Live Mail a no-go for me.

I was very upset to find Outlook Express no longer included when I got my Windows 7 computer. After playing around with WLM, I ended up installing Thunderbird. It generally works fine, but occasionally gives me server errors when I attempt to get my mail, even though the settings are correct. I never had/have those errors with Outlook Express.

I installed Postbox Express last night hoping to avoid that problem. I like it a bit better than Thunderbird, but I am still getting those errors.

I was considering Foxmail, but read something about a possible security issue. The search continues.

I opened Outlook Express on my notebook a few minutes ago just to double check the account settings... oh how I miss it's clean interface, easy to set up rules and flawless performance.

Does anyone with many email accounts find Windows Live Mail acceptable? Is there a trick to setting it up that I'm missing?

I have two accounts setup on Windows Live Mail and each has separate folders. Also has Quick View which will let you see ALL unread e-mails from all accounts. Just setup an account for each e-mail address. I do not login to "Windows Live" but use Windows Live Mail as a stand alone client.
