Solved Computer cannot find hotspot

Daughter uses At&T service on an LG Escape 2 phone for her hotspot to connect to the internet for her windows 7 computer and her windows 10 computer. It has always worked fine until she decide to get Hugesnet which turned out to be a disaster. HN could not keep it working so along with numerous other issues, she canceled the service and went back to her hotspot. Now the hotspot connects to the windows 10 with no issues. The windows 7 computer cannot find the hotspot. The progress circle just keep turning but nothing ever happens. I know absolutely nothing about using a phone as a hotspot. Any ideas as to what to look for?

Thanks Snick for the reply. Had here to attempt a new connection setup as per this article but it could not find her LG hotspot. Still checking for a wrong setting but have found nothing so far.

WiFI is enabled on the laptop computer?

Her last backup is 5 years old and the oldest restore point is when Hugesnet was set up for their internet. She said they were many restore points on the computer before. Unfortunately, they are no longer there. Thanks for the pic comment!

WiFi enabled is not the same as Network and Sharing WiFi enabled.
Laptops usually have a button to enable, disable WiFi.
Are both enabled?
Is hotspot enabled on cell phone?

Another thought, have you scanned for malware?

Ok, she purchased a new phone yesterday and it has no problem with hotspot. Both win10 and win7 computers hooked up which leads me to believe that it has to be a phone setting wrong.

This issue sounds fixed now with a new phone, but the issue here might have been the network name (SSID) in Windows. Just a guess. Sometimes you can go into the network settings in Windows and forget network names and that may allow Windows to reconnect to a WIFI connection. In this case from the phone.

From dslreports.com, it seems like there may be two ISPs in your area of AT&T U-Verse and Time Warner. Though, the reviews looked mixed and the price seems awfully high. If Comcast is available they would be a tier 1 ISP. But your mileage may vary.

HughesNet is satellite and that is typically going to be pretty poor. Especially for downloading and uploading speeds. Never mind the high latency. But if you live out in the middle of no where it may be one's only choice other than the aforementioned cell phone hot spot.

Really appreciate all of ya'lls suggestions. Using several of your suggestions, did get the computer to recognize the hotspot but still would not connect.However we did get it fixed! I do not know how nor does she but at some point the password was altered. Her password on the old phone hotspot was a name space and a single letter. Her computer had the name but not the space and a single letter! Thanks people, I have learned a lot with this one!
