Computer Crashing while playing Games

Hi, i have been having problems that when i play games my computer will crash after a few minutes. This problem has been happening for a while now and i decided to finally use the 7 forums.

I think it has something to do with the hardware since i have the WHEA Error:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
Processor ID: 2

Well looking at where it says the component reported is the processor core; it sounds like it could be the processor itself that is partially on its way out; or it could be the driver(s) for the cpu processor possibly need updating and or reinstalling. I would try first to see you can update the drivers via the motherboard manufacturers site or the system makers site depending on whether or not it is a custom build.

Oh ya sorry but which drivers should i update for the motherboard since i heard there are some you should avoid updating.

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. - H2SO4

The generic nature of the 0x124 (Arg1=0) stop code means we would have to take
the trail & error approach.

All of the 0x124 bugcheck you have experienced are a generic BUS error, which ultimately
doesn't give us much information apart from it's probably not the CPU itself.

Do you have any spare parts (or another PC) to test with?
The usual suspect of this kind of BCCode is the CPU but it's often not the the case which is why we need
to test other components to rule them out as the cause.
How old are your components?


What is the make, model and age of your PSU?
Fill out this form and post back the result:

• Power Supply Calculator

Good practice, open up the case and re-seat all types of connection.

• SATA Cables (HDD/SSD/ODD).
• SATA-Power.
• Motherboard 24-pin.
• Motherboard 4/8-pin (CPU).
• Re-seat the RAM.
• Re-seat the GPU.

Make sure that every slot / cable head is free of dust or other obstruction.
Make sure that every connection is seating properly and firmly in-place.

Also have a look at the motherboard and the GPU, search for any "bad caps", bulky, leaking bloated capacitors.

• Download HWinfo and post a Screenshot of the sensors window, one at idle and another while putting load on the PC using Prime95 for the CPU side and Furmark for the GPU.
  • Before running Prime95 make sure to enable Round-off checking (see 1st post under the tutorial).
     Note

  It is not mandatory to run both tests simultaneously, although possible as long as the temperatures are under constant monitoring.

:ar: Reset the BIOS back to default:

• CLR CMOS

   Note

Write down the current value of the SATA Mode!
Its either AHCI or IDE.
After resetting the CMOS go back and verify the value for SATA Mode is what it was
when the OS was installed.

If any component is overclocked reset it back to stock speeds!

I concur on the checking of the components that yoyo mentioned above. Especially also in looking at the capacitors to see any of them are bulging or look like they are going to burst. If they look like the ones in the above pics you definitely have problems with the board capacitors which can lead to the errors mentioned.

I'm sorry it's taken a long time for me to reply, i'd still appreciate it if you guys were to help. My PSU is a bit over 2 years old, and is Antec High Current Gamer 620W 48 A 24PIN ATX12V v2.3. After using the calculator i got a recommended wattage of 363 (maybe i didn't do it correctly, but i think i did). I have reseated most of the the things, and the caps on the motherboard seem to be fine. As for the tests:

I'm just kidding, The values are well within spec and safe temperatures, are you still getting BSOD's?

Yes but it doesn't really make sense to me. I'm not sure if you're familiar with any of these games but my computer crashes with games like maplestory and combat arms, however for a game that should be more stressful like Planetside 2 it never crashes.

Some software (games) can be a specific cause of BSOD's, can you try not launching the games in question for a couple of days and see if the BSOD's happen when they are not involved?

Well i haven't been launching these games because they crash. BSOD's don't happen when i don't use them, but that was my problem. I wanted to know what the problem was to fix it if possible.

If it is the application that causes the issues then there is not much you can do
but looking for patches and updates from the developers :\ .

Have you had any more BSOD's?

Hello, sorry for the long delay in posting again but I wasn't playing as much then, but since I have started to play again I have gotten a BSOD again and this time when I launch the game. I'd really appreciate help and hope we can find the cause of the problem.

Also, can you give me any info about which games you are having problems with and specifically what happens. Are they specific games or all of them? Do you monitor your COU and GPU temps? What programs do you have to do that, particularly the GPU. Would you please, when filling out your system specs, give me the manufacturer and model of your graphics card? Thanks, and any and all information you can give will help.

Also, if you are overclocking anything, please set it back to default values. At least until we can get you stable. As you can see from the badge below my signature, I am certainly not opposed to overclocking, but we need to get you stable at all stock settings first.

Hi thanks for replying, i have updated some of my system specs, sorry that i couldnt get all of them. Well specifically games like Combat Arms or Maplestory will end up giving me a BSOD. I do monitor my CPU temp with Core temp and i dont really monitor my GPU as it doesn't really go that high. Also i dont think i'm overclocking, but if i am is there a way to check? Thanks again for helping i appreciate the help.
