Computer display shuts off/computer shuts down. During video tasks.

Whenever I play a movie or a game, after about 20 mins or so the display stops working. On some occasions the computer will just shut off. I have ran a AIDA64 benchmark test on my machine with all hardware devices and the system performs well. (Test ran for 5 hours +) I also checked my cpu temperatures and when I do play a movie or game temps rise into the 75C + range. I have replaced my power supply with a(thermaltake 600w tr2) and even bought a ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm FSB cooler to help but still no solution to my problem. I also tried putting in a pci-express video card and the problem still happens.

75c isnt hot hot, but is a little hot for watching movies.

what cooler do you have on your cpu? and what are the idle temperatures?
also how long do they take to recover from the highest to the lowest temp?

this could be something as simple as poorly applied thermal compound.

im not saying it is over heating its just one possibility.
especially if youve a cpu with a built in apu and not a discreet gpu.

The max temp for that APU is 74C, so you are overheating and it's shutting down to protect the system.

stats and last shutdown event

Here are my idle temps and temps while playing a video. I did reseat my heatsink and fan but still getting random shutdown. Here is the current cooling i just bought ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm FSB (Fluid Shield Bearing) Powerful Cooling Performance CPU Cooler - Newegg.com

My computer just shutdown again as soon as I sent the last post. Video had been playing for bout 5 to ten mins. temp seemed to be in normal range.

A cooler with this type of heatsink is hard to get thermal compound (TIM) applied right. The tiny spaces between the copper pipes and aluminum needs filled in.

To do it, apply a dollop of TIM on the plate and with a finger inside a plastic bag, rub it in thoroughly and all over. Take a piece of paper towel and wipe at 90° angles to the heat pipes until it looks clean. Clean the CPU surface and apply a rice grain-sized drop of TIM and attach the cooler per its instructions.

The machine simply shuts down with no blue screen of death (BSOD)?

Yes it just shuts down without any bsod at all. I did what was recommended about the thermal paste and my cpu temps are in normal range even when wacthing movies but still shuts off. Sometimes the system fully cuts of and sometime the display shuts off but my cpu, fans and everything else are still running jus no display

Before we do more tests, check all of the internal cable to be positive they are fully seated, pull off and reattach. Check the cable from the wall to the display and PC and the video cable. If you can try a different VGA/DVI cable as well.

I forgot to say that your temps are well within reason in your snips you posted.

I think it worked

I changed monitors changed vga cables and reseated all jumpers and etc and Played a movie all throughout the night and no shutdowns. thanks britton30 and banger906
