Windows 7: Display shuts off, lost signal, widows freezes, tower stays

Hi everyone.



Sometimes when playing games, my display shuts off and looses signal, and there's a weird noise in headphones but tower still running.Windows is completely freezed and I have to reset the tower. And also I have to switch the monitor cable (aka switch from HDMI to VGA or VGA to HDMI) once the tower is reset to get the monitor to get the signal back.


I think it started after I modded the game Skyrim but I'm not 100% sure.
Need help :)

It can be due to CPU and / or GPU high temperatures.
Do you have a hardware monitor?
Don't need to install. Download, extract and run. You can configure what to see on the taskbar and on the gadget. Very good.

Lets do the basic.
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = yes
Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Back to Windows, Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
sfc /scannow

If it finds any problems, reboot and run it again.

Right now, CPU about 50-55°C and GPU around 30.

On post #1 you wrote that when playing games it freezes etc.
50º C is a high temperature for idle. When playing games it probably will get much hotter and then it shuts down to protect itself.

Open the case and have a look at the heat sink to see if it is clogged with dust.

Don't take out the heat sink from the CPU.

Take the fan from the heat sink and clean all with a paintbrush and a vacuum cleaner.
