Hello!

As the title says. The computer is newly built, component list you will find bellow. Anyhow, never had this issue with any other computers i have built in the past. Got the problem as soon as i had installed windows 7 ultimate and put all the parts together (obviously). The problem is that, even after following all the instructions and also google:ing on it, windows seems unable to dump the kernel (Yes i have followed the guide from 7 forums, and i have no issues with the page file size or such, since its larger than the total sum of ram). I did run the SF Diagnostic Tool anyways (even tho it could not find any dump to read, since windows saved none), tho i doubt it will be of much help without it.

Windows seems to throw error 41 (kernel power), which you can also find in the eventlist in the zip. I have read an insane amount of similar threads on different forums, trying to find the cause and fix for this problem. The only thing that i have come close to understanding is that its most likely software related, that some kind of driver fails. This would also make sense since upon resuming (from sleep) the computer wakes up and shows the loginscreen in windows, but upon pressing ENTER or such, the computer first freeze, then BSOD and then reboots. I cannot however resume windows from the saved "point" so i have to throw it away upon boot and start from "scratch", similar issues with hibernate (Tho i never get to the login window).

Anyone have any idea of how i can solve this, or how i at the very least can get windows to dump the kernel? The computer works in a flawless manner apart from this.

I have followed these guides:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/92394-sf-diagnostic-tool-using-troubleshooting.html

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump. Though you have tried, try it once more.

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

Trying to understand the situation from your statement above. What is the Bugcheck code? Is it 9F?

BTW, it is a desktop computer as you said. So sleep/hibernate is not anything needed there. Those mechanism are for laptops which run on battery power. You may easily disable sleep.

Now run the computer normally. Is it BSODing any more? Let us know.

Yeah i know, i have tried several times without luck, but i will try it as you described and hope that works better :)

The error i find (since i cant read any dump - since none was created) is in windows eventlist, and the error code is:

Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Level: Critical
Event ID: 41

(Offtopic probably, but i have service pack 1 installed and i have let windows update install all the latest updates). I have also installed all the latest drivers i can find for the motherboard, graphic card etc. I have also tried this on both a clean install (without any drivers/updates) and also on this install (with updates etc).

Its not a laptop no, but i want to be able to save power when going afk for long periods of time, and it just buggs me that its not working. I have disabled them for now, but i really want to be able to use them in the future. I have never had this issue before with any built and it just strikes me as wierd. (i have also checked the memory to ensure its not the issue) Ran memtest with over 20 passes and no errors.

I will try and get the dump once again, il keep you updated on my progress :)!

Event ID: 41 under Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power is not very specific information to debug a BSOD. It just means ...
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
What we have to do is to stop this unwanted abnormal shutdown. So we need a specific information which a crash dump can give.

Have you noticed the BSOD screen? There should be a bugcheck code like 0x0000009F (I am guessing the code from your explanation of the situation) .... if so, it is a combined error of a PnP device driver and Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI). So as far as we are not being able to find the driver, we need to disable sleep to stop the BSODs.

Edit: I think you should check the PCU and its wattage too, to make it sure that the computer is getting adequate power supply.

Indeed that is correct, i will do some research and get the entire bugcheck code on next BSOD (Right now im running another memtest just to be sure its not that) I will post back as soon as i got the code and or a kernel dump.

I disabled the auto restart on BSOD and took a picture of it with my phone... i noticed that it never got past "Initializing disk for crash dump..." (i waited about an hour). This probably explains why i cant get a kernel dump :/

The error code is:

*** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8009150060, 0xFFFFFA8009150340, 0xFFFFF8002DE4350)

And this is what i got in the bottom:

"Collecting data for crash dump...."
"Initiaizing disk for crash dump..."

And thats it, il attach the image here aswell (tho since its a photo from phone the quality is rather poor).

Edit: I also have tried the powersupply on another build (with higher demands) so i dont think the powersupply is the bogus in this one :/

A Stop 0XF4 is a storage related BSOD. It might be a failing HDD or a failing controller/cable etc.

Start from Disc checks. Though it is a Western Digital HDD, better you check it initially with Seatools.

  • Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
The long test will take some time to be completed. Let us know the results.

Ah yeah, i read something similar (while google:ing) about possible hdd issue. Wierd, the hhd is rather new aswell, but that does not rule out the fact that it could be broken somehow. Anyways, cant i download it and run it from within windows tho? Or will i have to run it via DOS?

Downloaded and installed it on the machine, running long test now. Will take about 5 hours acording to seatools :) Il post back when its done!

You can run it within windows using Seatools for Windows, But the bootable one gives better result.

Make a bootable USB and do the scan.

Hello again!

After running the BIOS version of Seatools (after about 1,5 hours it was at 33%), then i got the screen iv posted bellow. It felt like however the computer was yet again frozen (like it was after i wake it up after sleep) But im not sure if this is the way its suppose to be or not. But i could not Ctrl + Alt + Delete reboot it, so i had to manually reboot it. (Im unaware of the results, if it passed or not).

I then ran the windows version overnight, this one passed it seems, so im a bit confused.

I think you should try to apply the HDDs on different SATA ports on the motherboard. Also try to change the SATA cables, too.

You are welcome :)

BSOD issues are tough to solve, and active participation is highly needed to point the issue out, out of lots of possibilities. You gone through the troubleshooting process very well, and got the expected result. Cheers for you.

For any further issue, let us know :)
