Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am totally at a loss in regards to what's wrong with my PC for the past month or so now I have been experiencing computer freezes/lockups which result in no BSOD but just restart and then a popup after it restarts notifying me that windows was not shut down properly. I have done alot of research online and have narrowed it down to hardware in my PC. I ran memtest86 three times so far this month for cycles of 6-8 hours each time with no errors. I also ran chkdsk which didn't show any sort of error either. I then noticed that monitoring programs (speedfan, CPU-Z, HWinfo, etc..) are giving back low readings for PC voltages such as the +12V reading as of 8.58V on all the programs (I know these programs are not to be trusted for accuracy). I have no way of checking the voltages in my BIOS either and I am currently waiting on a volt meter I purchased online to arrive so that I may manually test the PSU. I do have a feeling though, that it may be either the mother board or the CPU in my PC. I have tried to read the DMP files from the 2 latest crashes which are identical, but I am unable to find any concrete information within them. I will post them here in case there is something I have missed.

hi kevin

For some odd reason ... the BIOS Version on the MSinfo shows 6.09, 07/09/2010.... where as the one on the HP website... puts the date at BIOS Version. 6.09, 08/05/2013 released 2 months back...

Could you flash this bios version again

Also could you post the HWmonitor snapshot as well here

Will wait for your voltmeter readings as well

Hello centaur78

I have tried to flash that BIOS before but after the reboot where it flashes the BIOS, it says there is an error and that the BIOS is reverting back to the default settings.

Also, here is the screenshot of HWMonitor that you requested.

Thanks for the reply!

Also, I'm not sure if this makes any difference, but the jumper pins on my MOBO were not in their default position according to the pictures on that HP website. The green jumper was in the reset position and I have never touched either of those pins.

I did a reinstall of Windows 7 Pro last night and I thought it had fixed the problems as there has been no issue since then but just now while browsing the web on firefox it happened. The dump files have the same information as the other 2 did.I have no idea what could be causing it and I'm running memtest86 and a HDD diagnostics. I also decided to apply a better quality thermal paste to by CPU which i did yesterday it has improved the temperatures of the CPU and I'm not even sure it is the CPU at this point since even when the computer is sitting idle it will do the restarts. Also I noticed the HDD is having a lot of activity as I can hear it spinning and clicks as if its being accessed. The HDD light is almost always on as well, which leads me to believe that it may be time to replace this HDD.

I hope the jumpers are in the default position now.. could you do the BIOS reflash again

Could you run Crystal Disk and post a snapshot of the SMART values here for each HDD/SSD

I did re-flashed the BIOS with the newest one on the HP site and again it says 07/09/2010 when looking up in System Information. I also ran Crystal Disk which didn't seem to find my HDD, but I did run the WD Data Lifeguard Tool from their website and it said SMART fail as it was unable to read SMART info.

Here are the screenshots...

I clicked on the SMART data in the WD application and it simply says that the SMART data could not be read. I also tried looking up SMART info in Speedfan which is just blank and also downloaded HDTune Pro which also could not get temp readings or SMART info regarding the drive. Here are the screen shots...

I just finished moving the HDD to a new SATA port on my motherboard and the programs are still giving me the same results. I also noticed, that the HDD is a Caviar Green HDD from WD. I have read online that green drives aren't that great as a boot drive and are more suited for a storage drive. I was wondering if perhaps that would make any difference. If it did i'm not sure why HP woudve selected this drive as the main PC drive....

Well looks like a bad drive.. have it RMA to HP or WD and get it replaced..

You could also download UBCD ( ultimate Boot CD ) and run the HDD diagnostics offline and see if you get any results regarding the failure of the Drive or If you have a spare HDD lying around.. install windows on it and check to see if it still BSOD;s

I finally got around to testing my PSU with a multimeter. Here are the results...

Power Supply With NO Load:
All Yellow Wires: 12.14Volts
All Red wires: 5.18Volts
All Orange wires: 3.42Volts
Purple Wire: 5.14Volts

Power Supply WITH Load:
All Yellow Wires: 12.31Volts
All Red Wires: 5.08Volts
All Orange Wires: 3.44Volts

It would seem that the PSU isn't an issue here. I will post back once the new HDD is installed.
