Starting a few days ago When ever i booted my PC after about 3-5 minutes on it would freeze. After hard reboot I would either get BSOD or the monitor wouldn't work. I've ran a full scan with both avast and malwarebytes and I'm not infected. I'm running memtest now, 6 passes and no errors.

Memtest finished 7 passes not 1 error.. restarted system was fine til earlier when i got home.. turned on PC and few mins in it froze again. had to hard reboot a few times didn't get any BSOD this time.

Software Concerns:
Please remove Norton PC Checkup. It uses unnecessary resources and does not provide much benefit to the system. Take a look at http://www.sevenforums.com/system-s...-system-security-combination.html#post1732627 for better options.

Analysis:
Code:
ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 20:30:36 2005 (42476C4C)
Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:
  1. Going to the Asus motherboard support site
    When you reach the website:
  2. Scroll down the page and click Utilities
  3. Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
  4. Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
  5. Download and install the driver.
  6. After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.
    • Click Start Menu
    • Click My Computer
    • Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
    • Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)

You should also update your Realtek Ethernet Drivers from your ASUS support site. If you need help, please fill in your system specs in your profile and not in a post in this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html. Your current specs do not give enough information about your motherboard to help. Another option for providing us with hardware info:
Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot.

Are you intentionally overclocking the RAM? It shows running at nearly four times the speed that it is designed to run at. Either your BIOS configuration is a mess and should be set to defaults (the EXIT screen will have a load setup/optimized defaults option in the BIOS), or you have a problem with your memory, CPU, or motherboard.

I've never overclocked before. I'm assuming the bios is messed up. I'll try to set to default and re-post the screen shots.

I loaded setup defaults in BIOS. Nothing has changed though on CPU-Z.

It is not good that it did not change... Go back into your BIOS -> Advanced -> JumperFree Configuration -> DRAM Frequency -> Manual -> [1333 MHz]

Save and exit the BIOS. See if CPU-Z now shows the DRAM frequency at 667 MHz (or around that value).

I did that and on first reboot i was stuck at " Loading Asus Express Gate" After i did hard reboot I went back into BIOS switched it back to auto and then again to 1333MHz. Booted fine. First few minutes it was showing 667Mhz. Then it started jumping between 667 and 2333.. and now it's staying at 2333MHz.

I have not experienced this problem before, so I have asked others who have been helping for a longer time than I have to take a look.

One thing I would suggest is to remove one of the RAM modules, set the BIOS settings again to manually have the frequency at 667 MHz, and see if the problem persists. If it does, try the module in another slot. Test each module individually within each slot and see if any combination provides the correct frequency in CPU-Z.

If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
  3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
  4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Lets confirm the RAM speed, download HWiNFO64, and see if it is reporting the same RAM speed.
Then click on the 'Sensors' button, scroll down and post the 'VBAT' voltage.
Should be above 3.0v.

If you have any Asus utilities installed, un-install them for testing purposes.
They are known to cause system instability.

The RAM 2333MHz may be a false reading, if it is correct it should crash the system.

Information for later if any other options haven't fixed your issues.
Do the above steps before you consider updating your BIOS.
A bad BIOS flash can cause your motherboard to become un-useable.
Your 0316 BIOS version date doesn't match the Asus site BIOS date: Asus M4A77TD BIOS
This usually means that BIOS version has been changed.
There are 6 newer BIOS versions listed, a couple have 'Improve system stability' in the description.

I do not see the RAM frequency in that screenshot. Is it in the top portion of the sensors screen that is not on the screen? Can we get a screenshot of the sensors after you scroll up?

The RAM settings will be on the 'System Summary' page that opens when the program starts.
Bottom half on the right side, this is the setting from BIOS.

In the left side of main page click on 'Memory' under 'Current Performance Settings' this will show current speed.

Your CMOS battery looks good.

The RAM frequency settings in HWiNFO64 are correct, this is just a confirmation, it doesn't mean there isn't an issue with RAM, motherboard, BIOS, etc.
Delete CPUZ and download and install a fresh copy.

What PSU are you using?

Do you have any Asus utilities installed?
If you do then un-install them for testing purposes.
They are known to cause system instability.

Download your motherboard manual: Asus M4A77TD
Let's manually set the RAM settings, this may stabilize them.

Make sure the DRAM frequency is still set to 1333MHz.
BIOS -> Advanced -> JumperFree Configuration -> DRAM Frequency -> Manual -> [1333 MHz]

In your BIOS: Advanced tab > Jumper Free Configuration >
Set these to Manual:
Set your VDD Over Voltage to 1.20v. Pg 2-10
Memory Over Voltage to 1.55v. Pg 2-12
DRAM Timing/Driving Configuration, set the first four timings to 9-9-9-25, leave the rest on 'Auto'.

BIOS -> Advanced -> JumperFree Configuration -> DRAM Frequency -> Manual -> [1333 MHz]

Save and Exit the BIOS.

Try to re-create the crash scenario or just use the computer normally.
Let us know the results.

CPU-Z is stable at 660s. My computer has not froze yet on startup but now.. on shutup it hangs on the shutdown screen. And my computer seems to be a bit slower. well feels slower to me.

Did you manually set the BIOS settings that I recommended?

Do you have Asus utilities installed?

What PSU do you have?

Trying to help you but, need some feedback on what your doing.

Do you have Asus utilities installed? I had an outdated ASACPI.SYS which writhziden had me update.

What PSU do you have? I have a diablotek 450Watt ATX Power supply

Just got a BSOD. Second one since the fist time this started happening. Also on some shutdown it freezes/hangs on the shutting down screen.
