Solved Computer freezes while using, must shut power off

Hello and thank you for your time. Recently my computer started freezing at random times during use and the cursor wouldn't move at all. Ctrl/Alt/Delete didn't work either.

So I'd have to shut the power off, and restart. Got worse, so I had my friend wipe everything clean and start over. Only 3 weeks later it's doing it again.

I don't download anything unless I know exactly what it is or emails alike.

Custom built: 3 core processor, 500 Gig hard drive, 4g RAM, 32 bit Windows 7.

Any suggestions?

I meant to add that I did look for the same problem in other threads, but I didn't quite find what I was looking for.

BIOS and drivers up to date? Check that first. Any indications in the logs?

have you tested your memory ?
what are your temps like?

Should be. I bought every component new less than a year ago and had it built. Since this post, I have restarted twice, once of which the screen went white. That's a new one on me.

Scrooge, I'm not that educated about clocking and stuff. The guy that built it is good. Everything should be in order, but I can check it.

How do I check clocking and memory?

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

More than a month is a long time for new hardware to go without a driver update. Especially video and BIOS. You're not giving much info about your setup. Have you applied SP1? Go straight to the event logs and check for errors.

Just great, I'm out of CD's. Well, thank you for the advice. I appreciate it. I'll get to this asap and see what I can do with it.

also download cpu-z it will show you all the info about your system. when you run cpu-z a screen will come up like this one .

if you upload a snapshot of it we can see if it overclocked or not.

SP1 is applied. Windows just did a bunch of updates earlier today, is that what you're talking about? Or is there something else I should be doing.

I'll be damned, my a/c unit was turned off over the weekend while gone and I forgot until I started sweating, lol. I cranked it up and cooled the house down, no problems since. Could it have been that it was overheating?

I'll go ahead and do the screen shot thing just to make sure Scrooge. Carwiz, I don't know how to check event logs, but I'm sure I can learn.

Wow, I need to start learning some things.

EDIT: I Googled it and holy crap, I have 115 admin events with "critical" "error" and other stuff. I assume I should erase them? Is there a way to?

i'd think it must have been very hot in your room to make the system crash like that.
did you check your system temps yet? if not you can download (RealTemp).

my system temps were low it appeared. I got home today and it worked great with the house cool. After a couple hours, it went berserk. I have rebooted 5 times in the past hour. GGRRRRR
