Computer hard locks -

Yeah, GPU temperatures will vary with motherboards. That is a known phenomenon, so nothing to worry about. As long as the GPU is still running under 90C, it should be fine.

Well, it is peaking at 83 now instead of 77 degrees celsius. It's a GTX 570, so this is still normal for it, I suppose.

Also, the new mobo is stable so far. I've also talked to Amazon and they are willing to refund 80% of the value(7 months old purchase), so I guess I will not lose much, except for my precious time :(

Yeah, Amazon really looks out for customers I've found. That is awesome that they'll refund that much for you. :) Sorry about the time loss, though. That is difficult when a computer, which is most of our livelihoods these days, has so many problems.

2 days and no freezing or BSOD. It's been running perfectly. I'll check my case tomorrow and see if I can improve the temperature of my GPU also, as prefer it to run below 75 degrees. Guess problem is solved. Too bad for Asus though, they lost a costumer and I'll make sure they lose more.

Thanks everyone

Well, RAM would have been my first guess, but you seem to have covered that pretty well. I would lean more towards the motherboard before the processor, I can't remember the last time I had a problem with an Intel processor. I have had many ASUS mobo problems recently, a lot of the symptoms that you report, in addition to BIOS being screwed up (the screen is askew when in BIOS, totally strange, and ASUS unsuccessfully tried to repair it, hellooooo Intel Motherboard).
Get new motherboard, here are cheap ones. digital anny | eBay But you have to remember that after Hard locking falls on you, it is like plague...you have to bet. I know receiving used MOBOS from china is risky. But the prices are 60 percent lower, and especially it has return policy and you can try 2-3 MOBOs just to see it. It will be impossible in North America on budget.
