Solved Computer "Manage"

When I right click computer and select manage I get an error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel." I am not sure how it got unassociated with it but like to find a fix for it. I can got the system32 directory and run it from there but would like it to work from My Computer.

Try the easy first. Type from an administrators account type cmd in search. In cmd type sfc /scannow. Let us know what happens.

Workaround

Create a Batch File under C:\Windows\System32\ called CompMgmtLauncher.bat

Download this attachment View attachment CompMgmtLauncher.bat save it under C:\Windows\System32

Go To Start Type Regedit and do a search for CompMgmtLauncher.exe
Mine was located here.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command]

Under this key you will find a line that ends in CompMgmtLauncher.exe
Change the exe to bat and Manage should now work.

Your workaround "QUOTE" did the trick for me.

Ok,

I found a fix for this below if you would like to use it.

Manage - Fix "File does not have a program associated"


You would need to first change the CompMgmtLauncher.bat back to CompMgmtLauncher.exe for the at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command in the registry to undo the workaround above.

and modify the existing value in
mmc %SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc
Works at once , no need to reboot .

Wen you open RUN\REGEDIT\[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command] for the first time
you should get this as value in the right window :

%SystemRoot%\system32\CompMgmtLauncher.exe

Make a double-click on the value ( default ) and change it to

mmc %SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc

and you are done , no Batch File needed , no download , works at once , no need to reboot . You can also have a look here if you wish :
