I am having serious issues with my mouse that is really annoying me right now. For the past several weeks the mouse has being acting up on my Windows 7 machine. I will list out what's happening below:
- The mouse is automatically highlighting text;
- If I happen to be typing (such as now), and it highlights, it deletes all or some of the text I wrote. I have to constantly press CTRL+Z (undo) to get what I typed back; and
- I might over over a link or whatever and it will automatically open it in a new tab or new window.

I have done the following:
- I have used another mouse to see whether that was the issue (it wasn't); and
- I have run several computer scans (e.g. Norton360, the free Malwarebytes, TDSSKiller and SuperAntiSpyware.

Nothing seems to work. I am getting behind in my studies because of this issue. I would appreciate any help.

P.S. This is happening all over the computer, (e.g. NotePad++, Firefox, Comodo Dragon, Microsoft Word).
Thanks.

It sounds like the synaptics touch pad sensitivity may have been changed. Go to control panel > mouse. Depending on how your computer is set up, you should see a "mouse properties" dialog box with several tabs. One of those tabs should be called either Device Settings or perhaps Synaptics. Open that tab and you should see a mind-boggling array of settings that can be adjusted. You may have to experiment to find a mid-range value for sensitivity.

You could also visit the Acer website and make sure you have the latest driver for the touchpad.

Hey marsmimar,

Thanks so much for your response!

I had a look around the mouse settings and the word "TouchPad" appeared. I decided to click disable thinking I might be putting my fingers on the TouchPad while typing. Well - the problem isn't happening anymore. It's amazing how long it's taken for me to figure out such a simple error (which happens to be a human error, not technical). Again, thanks for your help. Cheers.

Had to do the same with my brand new out of the box Asus. Wonder if this is a Taiwanese thing? :)
