Okay, so what my problem is is that sometimes I'm watching a show or playing a game or whatever (something that requires high CPU usage) and my computer will overheat and shut off. When I boot up my computer after it has cooled down, sometimes no recording/playback devices will be detected and it will tell me that there are no audio devices installed. I must constantly restart my computer until it can recognize that there are sound devices again. I don't know how I can prevent this from happening. There may even be no audio recognition if my laptop battery pops out by mistake, any faulty shut off leads to this problem essentially.

Things that I've tried to prevent the problem would include me opening sound and hardware devices and checking to see if it is displaying audio devices that aren't installed, or ones that are disabled, but it will still display nothing, as well as me opening he device manager and usually the sound driver is not displayed when this problem occurs.

This sounds like a motherboard/components overheating problem. If it gets to the point it shuts down because of CPU overheating, there is a good chance other components on the motherboard are also overheating. Laptops have very poor air circulation and cooling.

Powering off while running can also cause many problems, including corruption of the hard drive. Be very careful in this area.

Although this affects sound, it would appear to be the "self inflicted" problems are causing it.
