Just installed i7-6700k, maximus viii ranger and 16gb gskillz ddr4. instealled fresh win 7 on a 225gb ssd. I have an evga gtx 970

When I play a certain game, the computer will restart, it sometimes does it right when i load in, sometimes after playing for a bit. Cannot figure it out and it worked fine on my other system.

ran sfc /scannow and it said it fixed some files, still had the issue after that.

Event viewer will tell me there was an unexpected shutdown at a specific time, but then there is nothing in the viewer at that time. I do see these errors in the viewer during boot.

The Intel(R) Content Protection HDCP Service service terminated with the following error:
%%-2147023559

Driver ACPI returned invalid ID for a child device (5).

My gfx drivers are up to date.

Just had another reset. found this in the event log

The previous system shutdown at 5:28:26 PM on ‎7/‎10/‎2016 was unexpected.

There is no event at that time, and the one prior to it is:

5:28:07 pm The Program Compatibility Assistant service successfully performed phase two initialization.

This is the only game that restarts it? Is it more intense than others you have? This is strange. I will get back to you.

Could MSI AfterBruner or a like program cause something like this?

Its doing it on other games now as well. not running AB at this time, while I'm getting the errors. I did xfer game files over from old system to this one in steam, but have now deleted them and doing a fresh install of them, was able to play one game through w/o issue. downloaded and installed another game. about 10 seconds in, when it is going from the menu into the game, it reset my pc. nothing in event viewer at the time of the reset. Just this:
The previous system shutdown at 8:28:22 AM on ‎7/‎11/‎2016 was unexpected.

but nothing in the viewer at that time, nothing immediately prior to it either.

update: able to reproduce 100% of the time now. first i tried furmark and prime95. prime95 gave a couple errors on logical cores but could not recreate it consistently. FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4996806073, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Changed furmark to use dynamic camera and post fx instead, system reset just as in my games. was not even running prime95. so not sure what is bad, cpu/mb/ram bought them all as a combo on newegg.

update:update: occt PW test recreated the issue as well. occt cpu linpack on its own did not, neither did gpu 3d test on it's own.

PS is xion 700w bought in 2013. guess I'll replace that first.

I find it hard to believe a PSU could cause this. I hate to see you replace a bunch of parts and the problem is still not solved. == I just Googled Xion and there are some bad reviews on it. XION XON-1000P14F High Performance 1000W Power Supply, compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3/i5 /i7 and AMD Phenom ,SLI/Cross Fire Ready, ATX 12V, EPS 12V v2.91 and SSI v2.91, Six 12V Rails & 8 x-Newegg.com Maybe that would be a good idea, but get a different brand. I have a Corsair from New Egg and it has been a good one. They have a good reputation, just a suggestion.

Well tentatively, I think I am good now. Got a Corsair Hx750i , the occt PS burn did not reset my system and neither did the furmark with dynamic camera and post fx. So I hope that fixed, it, going to say yeah for now. I as well saw issues with my Xion in tests and such, bad ripple voltage.

Thanks for all the help :)
