My computer was running slow for ages it is a very old computer so I assumed it needed a fresh install of Windows 7 to de- clutter things upon completion I could tell immediately that things had not improved if anything they had gotten worse.
Internet explorer took forever to load and windows updates were not moving at all just searching for hours.
I have just noticed now that cpu usage is at 100% in task manager and it is using 1.08Gb of ram out of a total of 2GB
I have done a virus scan with Norton as well as malware bytes and nothing has shown up?
I have tried using two separate hard drives that has not worked either
Please if you now anything that will fix this problem I would be very grateful as I cannot afford a new computer at the moment and I am going to need it on Monday for work

These are symptoms I'm having on a relative's Acer One I've just clean installed 7 32-bit Starter on. The updates problem could be down to the Windows Update Agent automatically updating to 7.6.7600.320 (notice the 7600 pre-dates Service Pack 1 so this could be an indicator). The System Upgrade Readiness Tool is apparently supposed to fix this but so far I've had no joy.
It's worth trying that fix for updates first then tackling the slow IE loading time after all other updates are installed.
Personally I'm trying to upgrade the One to W10 but that's stuck at finding updates too prior to even installing, so I may reinstall 7 again and change the Update settings to see if I can block the Update Agent upgrade so I can actually install Updates. This is another possible fix you may want to try.

I dont think i have any malware on my system ICT2 i tuned of automatic updates all together and rebooted and it seems that updats is almost certainly the casuse of the problem whenever i turn it back on the svchost.exe process uses all of my resources.
However things brings me to a new question that i hope you can help me with how do i fix it so that i can update my pc ?
Before that your computer running in xp?,so installed win 7.may be the config is not matching with win 7.ram and processor.please use the exact config to use win 7.
Mate unfortunately it looks like the old computer may need a makeover if not replacement. Now I can I ask if you thoroughly cleaned that drive of all XP stuff after saving data - a simple clean might have looked good but may have left remnants behind ad if the 7 install didn't go over it all maybe it has stuff that maybe messing with the install.
What about a new drive and if I remember you only have 2GB of RAM on board perhaps 4GB might make things a little better by easing the load on the CPU - I am just trying to think sideways here.

Hi ICIT it appears that I have now fixed the issue ... well sort of
It was the windows updates causing the problem and like you said I have quite and old computer and the svchost.exe process was using up all system resources on the bloody updates so I disabled the process and now everything has returned to satisfactory level
Good job mate at the moment it seems that the updates are all over the shop and it seems to have started with the the release of 10 - I stand to be corrected though. Now if you take my advice I would set the updates to let you know but let you decide which to download and install especially if you want to avoid that Windows 10 stuff the KB 3035533 is one in particular to avoid because if you install it - it will nag the life out of you . Beware though there are more:sarc:

If people want to use that MRY cleaner (batch file), they need to understand what it is removing. I would not be happy with that cleaner. I don't want anything to remove all files from c:\temp\.
Also, the file is hosted on MediaFire. That is not the safest place to be downloading files from.
