Computer suddenly claims my Windows is invalid

Hi, I bought my PC back in 2012 from Cyberpower Systems.

Since then I have steadily upgraded it, I changed the GPU, the RAM, motherboard broke and was replaced and also a new CPU fitted.

Recently I have bought a new SSD, a Crucial M500 240Gb SSD and installed windows onto it, reformatted my older Seagate HHD and set everything up. Activated Windows and everything is fine.... until today I get an error pop up in my face saying my Windows is not valid..... I should think it bloody well is, having had it for two years this better not be some money grabbing scheme trying to force me into buying a new copy of Windows.

From what I have read, if I click the validate button and download the tool I risk having significant functionality removed and/or extremely inconvenient messages nagging me, simply because Microsoft have ballsed up an update or something.

Last update is Security Update for Microsoft Windows KB2862973 completed 28/04/14.

I am currently using my mobile phone, a HTC One X Plus as a network adapter using USB Tethering and network pass-through to connect to my Landlord's Wi-Fi until Virgin install their modem on Friday, so I'm hoping that shouldn't be blocking any updates that would otherwise resolve this.

Can anyone offer a way to fix this?

That page is what the pop up leads me too, but I have been unwilling to go through with it after reading up on line how it can quite often given incorrect answers and thus causing me grief. If I wasn't being prompted by a window saying my Windows is not valid I would be more than happy to go through with that process.

I am hoping that the reason this has occurred is due to certain Windows security updates failing to download/install and might be caused due to my connection being via Network Pass-through using an Android device. This issue being caused by failed updates or without updates to Windows was also mentioned online.

According to your report, you shouldn't be seeing any notifications - did you run it while you could see such a notification?

It's possible that this is due to some strange networking phenomena - but I'd need to know more about the sequence involved.

If you are seeing non-genuine messages, but the tend to come and go of their own accord, this is probably due to a race condition - such conditions are usually caused either by over-active AV, or by malware.
