Hi Everyone!
Today I installed some addons for Garry's Mod (game which is also known as GMod)through steam which means all mods and addons are safe. I also got the addons that had a 4 or more star rating and good reviews. Well after installing everything and playing the game it froze my computer. I tried control+alt+delete but it did not work. I also tried many other keyboard shortcuts such as alt+tab and pressing the windows button on my laptop but nothing worked. I rebooted the computer manually thinking it would fix the game. It turned on fine and I restarted the game. Once again the game froze at the same spot and would not exit once again, so I manually rebooted again. This time I got a black screen for about 5 minutes and then I got an error code. It says:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your Computer"

If you do not have the disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Things you should know:

1. I do not have the original boot disk because my computer did not come from one (I am the first owner and bought it from the electronics store fresh out of the factory)

2. Safe mode does not work when I press F8 while booting.

3. I am pretty sure it is hardware because of the info it gave me.

4. I CANNOT lose any of my data on my computer because I have important school files and other family members stuff. Also I need all of my music. I also run multiple game servers and things like that, that other people depend on.

Thanks In Advanced, DavoTesolono

Hello DavoTesolono. Welcome to the forum.

First, a nag. This is not so much for you - it's too late - but for others reading this post:

  • Back up your important data people! If it is not backed up it is not important.
  • Please make a System Repair Disk as soon as you get your computer if you do not have an installation disk. Very easy: Start > type: system > click on "Create a System Repair Disk".
The first thing you can try is boot the computer and as soon as the BIOS screen disappears start pressing F8 repeatedly. This will bring up the Windows boot menu. Then choose "Use Last Know Good Configuration" and press enter. Let it do it's thing.

If that does not work, then get on your phone and start checking to see if anyone you know has a W7 installation DVD or USB stick. If your laptop is running 64 bit W7 then the DVD must be a 64bit DVD.

With a System Repair Disk or Installation DVD you can run Startup Repair:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html?ltr=S

Once you get on your Desktop, immediately uninstall the problem program.

If you can, then try to do a System Restore to a point before the day you installed this program. This may not work because of the repairs made by Startup Repair, but worth a try.

The good news is that none of this should affect your hard drive or your data.

This tutorial, the first two steps allow you to download the iso file and make an installation disk or an USB drive.
Then follow what it says (or what TVeblen said above) and see what happens.

3. I am pretty sure it is hardware because of the info it gave me.
That's a pretty common and generic message, I would run some tests before saying that. Still, I doubt that stuff from steam could be the culprit.

Not being able to go in safe mode is a bad sign though.

I CANNOT lose any of my data on my computer
None on earth can guarantee that. We always advise to make backups of your critical stuff. Never EVER trust a single device to store your data. Do like pros and make triple-redundant backups.

Other Info
Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
If I were to take a WAG it would be that either the game made some display or graphics changes in order to run that are not supported by the devices, or that it was just a bad install (it happens).
