Computer won't sleep at night.

OK, I'm seeing strange behaviors on my machine...

My sleep settings are set for 5 minutes for screensaver, 10 minutes to turn the screen off, and after 15 minutes the machine goes to sleep.

I've edited the system so updates, and everything of the like happen during business hours [8-Cores, it's not going to lag...] and it doesn't have a problem sleeping during the day.

I'll be up at midnight, 3 in the morning, and MOST of the time, the screen is still on, not even a screensaver, and when it is not, I hear the fan of the CPU, and the power light tells me the machine is running at full power.

What can I do?

Try hibernation instead.

I have it set 10 minutes for display, 30 minutes for sleep, and 45 minutes for hibernation, and it works perfectly.

Almost forgot Power Plan = Balanced.

Although I am trying to understand. Do you want it to wake from sleep and do the updates and stuff that you have it doing?

Or do you want to prevent programs from waking your machine up, because that sounds like that is what is happening.

3am is the default time windows is set for updates and disk defrag and all that general maintence unless you change it. Which it sounds like you have.

As far as I'm aware, I've done all that stuff. I've changed all the updates and stuff like that to happen during the day, so at night the computer just sleeps. It has no reason to wake up during the night.

As far as I can tell, It's not going to sleep to begin with, or even going over to screensaver.

I have not set the screensaver to blank [I likes screensavers, especially the second purpose of to entertain] but I did turn off the wake for scheduled events.

It does the screensaver, shuts down the screen, but I can hear the CPU fan working at any time of the night...

My understanding is the cpu fan does not care about all those settings. It only comes on with temperatures that indicate the fan is needed. Other than the fan coming on what other indications do you have that the system has woke up.

That is actually a very good question! I'm pretty sure the power light is still on.

Is there other signs to look for? Moving the mouse seems to just light up the screen, it doesn't seem to boot or anything like that [but it is an SSD]

Update your display driver: Enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates. There may also be a performance update that affects this.

If no newer Display driver is delivered, check the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or device. Try all available drivers including older to see which will support Sleep.

The optimal settings are the one AddRAM showed you. Screensaver is not needed unless you have a CRT monitor.

Drivers are fully updated.

Going to check the AMD & Asus for drivers.

Screensavers had two purposes. They were to save the screen, as the name implies. They also entertained. Quite often I have Johnny Castaway [stolen so much it was actually made public domain] on my computers, but I have not tried it with Win7 to see if it even works. I also use my screensaver as a way to measure how long it's been since it's been used...

Taking a look at the Sleep mode problems. Edit: Already been through that one too

If you're using third party screensavers then you may not need to look much further for the problem blocking sleep. That's even worse than I thought.

I'd also scan your PC with Malwarebytes because their downloads are a notorious path for infection.
