Configuring second managed switch on network

I would like to confirm that the settings I have are correct for a second managed switch I am adding to my network. DHCP I have disabled, IP address I have found one on the network unused (192.168.1.xxx), subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The only thing I'm not sure about is the default gateway setting - what should this be?

Default gateway should be the LAN IP address of the router you use to go to the Net, IE the one connected to your modem and or LAN IP address of a Modem/Router combo box.

But if you are disabling the DHCP server in a managed switch you are basically turning that managed switch into a dumb switch just like any other. Well not like any other Dumb switch.

You default gateway would need to be your router. (same as other computers on the network).

Would the default gateway be the one listed in ipconfig? For example, 192.168.1.1.

I thought it was this, however, when I made the change and connected the second switch to the network, my desktop (connected to the existing network) lost connection to the internet and wasn't restored until I took the second switch off.
