I have found this on the Microsoft site at different locations. What concerns me is the difference about the backup feature on Win 7 Professional and Ultimate.

With backup option:
Compare editions

Without backup option:
Windows 7 - Buy and download from Microsoft Store

I really wish there was a good place to get definite answers on going to Win 7.

All versions have backup and restore. the only difference is the backup and restore accoss a network (home and work)

it says "In addition to full-system Backup and Restore found in all editions, you can back up to a home or business network." for the top two versions but not for home.

Hope this helps

Ken

edit: Yes In ultimate, Pro , but not home. thanks AM

Backing up to network location is included both in Professional and Ultimate editions, as the first of your linked sites tells. The second site has this info wrong.

OK, if I understand, local Backup and Restore is available in all editions, which is different from Vista. Backup and Restore to a network is only available in Pro and Ultimate.

Maybe someone with Microsoft will point out to Microsoft the Microsoft Store has some inaccurate information.

Will Pro have the full set of administrative tools as Ultimate does?

I suppose I am also confused about upgrade versions. In Vista, the Business version removed some things from the Home Premium while adding some things, like fax. Are the Windows 7 versions set up to only add as you increase the version?

I get confused because the version upgrade chart seems to say I can upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Win 7 Ultimate, but not Win 7 Professional. If I use the custom install, can I use Vista Home Premium and install a Win 7 Professional upgrade version?

Sorry I am rambling, but the more questions I ask the more questions I seem to have.

Windows 7 SKU's are now built on subsets or is that supersets :D) of features....Vista was more of a mishmash of features amongst the SKU's.

Ultimate doesn't have too much more than Professional for the average user and you would only go to Pro if you really needed the extra features such as Domain log-in etc etc.
Have a look in the Tutorials section....there is a great post there giving a lot more detail on all the SKU's.
