Confused with Intel Chipset driver

I'm gettting a new system shortly & will be building it myself which I haven't done for many a year.

I'm confused with the chipset driver.

The board is an Asus P7P55D-E Deluxe. The chipset is a P55 Express. The cpu is an Intel i7-875k. OS is win 7 pro 64.

I found this, Chipset Software Installation Utility V9.1.1.1020, over at the Asus page here.

Is that what I am after?

If so when the OS is installed is it correct in installing the chipset driver next?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums. Windows went through a lot of trouble to see that most manufacturers prvidied drivers for this operating system. Presonaly I would do the build and install the OS then check the device manager and see what if any drivers windows hasn't provided I think you'll be pleasently surprised to find out most have been installed.
Since it is the only driver utility listed under chipset for your board I would think it to be the correct one.

That would be your chipset....

And the chipset should be installed prior to anything else. (After your Windows 7 install)

What Fabe has suggested is pretty much spot on. After your install, you can rt. click your devices in device manager and select properties. You can cross check what driver version Windows installed, and if a newer version is available from the Asus page, I would install them.

A general rule of thumb is after a windows install is to sort your drivers first. Then do your Windows updates.

This one Chipset Software Installation Utility V9.1.1.1020 will only update the .inf in your system...

Hello Hipster Doofus,

For your Asus P7P55D-E Deluxe, it has the Intel P55 chipset. It uses the same newer Intel Chipset V9.1.1.1025 INF Update Utility -​ Primarily for Intel® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets driver for my Asus x58 chipset motherboard. You will just install it, then it will ask you to restart the computer afterwards.

I loaded the one from the first post. Seems to have gone OK.

My chipset is P55 express. So is the Intel Chipset V9.1.1.1025 compatable?

This is where I am getting confused. Is the V9 OK with the P55 Express?

This is the first time I've loaded win 7. When the budget allows I'm upgrading the hard drives at which time it will be wiped & i'll start over so it's not going to hurt if I muck things up.

Sorry, yes it's the same one for the P55 chipset as well. It's a uninversal chipset driver for all of these Intel chipsets below. Your's would be considered a 5 series as well.

So next time I should forget about the Asus Chipset Software & stick with the Intel. Right? And install it straight after a fresh install?

What's the difference between them? Feel like I'm running around like a chook with me head cut off.

There's no difference other than Intel will have the latest version since they are the ones that make the chipset. I would go with the Intel INF versions instead.

Asus, uses the same ones, but they test them on the motherboards before putting them on their site for download. They do not always get in a hurry to do so though.
