Connect to NAS drive via IP address?

I've just re-installed Windows 7 on my friend's computer. Previously, it was mapped to a network attached external drive in such a way that the IP address was shown for the NAS drive when you looked in Computer. I can't seem to make that happen now. When I go to Map Network Drive and put the IP address in on the folder line, Windows cannot find it. I've confirmed the IP address I am using is correct by looking on another computer in the network.

I am able to map it by browsing in Map Network Drive and finding the drive, but I'd like it to be like it was before, where it displays the IP address.

How do I make that happen?

Thanks

Hi Vincenzo,

Please give it a try again. Make sure that you have the correct IP of the NAS and folder share name. For ex. \\192.168.0.5\share. Also, you may try pinging first the IP Address of the NAS form your computer.

Ok I will be over there again tomorrow. I had just entered the IP address ie
\\192.168.0.5

BTW is there an advantage to connecting via the IP address? My friend thinks it will be a more reliable connection.

Thanks

When you are trying to map any network drives, you have to have the shared drive/folder.

For me, it's the same and no differences to use either the IP or Computer Name.

OK maybe I'll just leave it as it is then.

Thanks
