Constant Download

You put the file in a folder named PPCORE.
You are running regsvr32 from the Office12 folder.
Therefore, the file can not be located.

The file, PPCORE.dll, goes in the Office12 folder, not in any other location.

As to the other issue ... sorry, you're still not done with this one.

When I put the file into Office, I placed it on top of the header, Office12. The file then showed up on the list, as you see. I previously had opened the zip file where it showed as a tool, the blue one with a gear on it. I had done the same thing with in, placed it on top of Office. Ran the cmd thing with the same error message. Drag and drop.
So apparently I don't know how to add a file to another file.

As far as the new issue, I just reloaded Essentials and will see what happens.

The graphic you posted showing the Office12 folder does not show what it's contents are in the right hand pane of Computer.
So, no one can see if the file is actually in the Office12 folder.

Is there a POWERPNT.exe located in the Office12 folder ?

Although we don't see it in the Office 12 file list, I found it at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12, ‎ Created Thursday, ‎February ‎26, ‎2009, ‏‎1:06:28 PM Group SYSTEM
and at C:\Windows\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed\00002119F20000000000000000F01FEC\12.0.4518, Created ‎Friday, ‎October ‎27, ‎2006, and in the Group "Everyone" ‏‎5:04:06 PM
And at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12, Created ‎Thursday, ‎October ‎26, ‎2006, ‏‎10:47:02 PM powerpnt.exe.manifest Group SYSTEM

In all three locations, the read only and hidden boxs are NOT checked.

When I double click on Office 12, at the top, I get a long list of files related to Power Point:
POWERPNP
powerpointpnt.exe.masifest
POWERPOI
PPCNV.DLL
PPCNVCOM
PPCNVPXY.DLL
PPCORE.DLL
PPCPRTID
PPSLAX.DLL
PPTIRM
PPTIRMPPTVIEW
ppview.exe..manifest
PSRCH.DLL
PSRCHFEA.DLL
PSRCHLTS.DLL

You will need to show file extensions.
Click the Start orb ( on the left hand side of the Task Bar, which is usually on the bottom of the screen )
In the Search programs and files field, type in folder opt

On the list that appears, under Control Panel, click on Folder Options.
Click the View tab.

Under Advanced settings: > Files and Folders, remove the check mark next to
" Hide extensions for known file types "
Click the Apply button, then click OK.

Go back to the Office12 folder and see if POWERPNT.EXE is listed, please.

I just received a phone call with some really bad news. A friend called to tell me that a mutual friend was found dead in his home. So, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back to this thread.
Sorry for the delay but I'm very upset right now and have to make some calls.

I will try that later. Sorry for your loss. I have 3 days of races starting tomorrow anyway, so little computer time. Take care and our prayers are with you and yours.

Take your time and try to follow what I posted. Good luck with the races.

And, thanks for the condolences. Life and it's events put computer issues into it's proper perspective.

I did that and POWERPNT.EXE is listed. I also noticed you referred to PPCORE.dll, not PPCORE.DLL. So I changed the .dll in the file to lower case, like you typed. Then I tried to run the register ppcore thing in elevated prompt. Same result as the sreen shot error.

Rename PPCORE.dll back to PPCORE.DLL, please.
Let's try registering the .dll with it's name in all Capital letters this time.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt again and type in the below, pressing Enter after each command

cd C:\
cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\
regsvr32 PPCORE.DLL
exit

Did that get PPCORE.DLL registered ?

I tried it in all caps, I tried PPCORE.dll, ppcore.DLL, ppcore.dll and the PPCORE.DLL. Nothing works. Same error message.

I know you said before, one thing at a time. Reloading Live Essentials seemed to have fixed Photo Gallery. One other program keeps trying to upgrade and that is Java. I only mention this because I don't know what programs use parts of other programs to work. I belirve some do. When Java tried to upgrade, I get:
A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0xcccccccc, pid=2464, tid=336
#
# JRE version: 6.0_25-b06
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (20.0-b11 mixed mode, sharing windows-x86 )
# Problematic frame:
# C 0xcccccccc

Thanks. I don't care about the Java, as it is running fine. Just don't know if there is a connection.

Wow, this is PowerPoint 'thing' is frustrating. Outside of uninstalling and reinstalling PP, I'm not sure how we can get this fixed. AFAIK, there is no PPCORE.DLL located anywhere else besides in Program Files, so the .dll must be located and registered from that location.

As to Java, if it will not update, then strongly recommend that you uninstall it from Programs and Features in Control Panel as all of the recent updates for it are Critical Security updates for remotely exploitable vulnerabilities.

If you need it installed, then be sure to install the most recent release for Windows x64. Here's a link from which you can download and save it -
Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 26

When the download completes close all open programs and browsers.
Right click jre-6u26-windows-x64.exe and choose 'Run as administrator', agree to the UAC prompt.

I don't need a new Java, so if you don't think it has any shared files, I'm not going to mess with it.

I have gone to Microsoft updates and turn off the notice to download the update. When I shut it down, it turns itself back on.

This machine is a Vista based machine with the free W 7 upgrade from HP. As I have said, I have reloaded W 7 once, and that created more issues. Over time, I have fixed the majority of them. So the final question is: Is this really a Vista based problem that has popped up into W 7?

You have give real detailed instructions and I believed I did my best. It is annoying. What is next? Know anyone at HP? Maybe I should get a replacement that is based solely on W 7 without any Vista parts.

Sorry, no, I don't know anyone at HP.
As to the replacement, are you referring to the entire system or just a Win 7 DVD ?
There is absolutely no reason you should have to be going through all this just to get your computer functioning and stable. None.

I am thinking a replacement computer, one that is equal to this one, only build soley on a W 7 platform, instead of an upgrade from Vista platform.

Now, as I said, this whole issue is annoying. I told you I was having issues with Windows Live Photo Gallery. I re-downloaded it once and that fixed the problem. Now the problem has returned. What happens:
When I am editing a photo, IE, an old black and white, I click on the Black & White effects, which removes some stains and blemishes. I click the next pic icon on the bottom and the next pic shows up. And so on and so on. Problem is, when I close the pictures, where all the pics in that file should be seen, the pics I just edited are GONE. I go to Computer Search, enter .jpg and all pictures on the computer show up. I find the missing pictures. I right click Properties. The "Hidden" box is marked. I unclick it and it returns back to the original file. I have nearly 14,000 pictures in this compouter. That is a lot to sort through from Search to restore them to the original file.

Any thoughts?

OK. I am still having this download problem. I talked to the computer tech at Staples and he said although this did not start right away, the computer did not install the fan correctly. He said to scan the PC for New Hardware, and it would not find anyrhing. Then, unplug the fan, do the scan again. Then, plug the fan in, run the scan for new hardware, and it would find the fan, with an error code. I was then to "clear" the error code, and all would be good in the world.
PROBLEM: I cannot find anything that would allow me to scan for new hardware. In devices, all I have is properties for devices and hardware. Nothing to find new hardware.
I have doubts about this proceedure, but I have experienced PC voo-doo magic before.
