Control lagging in racing games

Hello,

I have a problem with game lagging. All the racing games (All need for speeds, all colin mcrae games, test drive unlimited) all work brilliant when it comes to graphics but there is a lag of like half a second to a second when it comes to controlling the car itself and it is very annoying and makes the games unplayable.

Computer specs:
Hp Compaq Presario Cq61
Pentium(R) Dual-core CPU T4200 @2.00GHz,
Nvidia GeForce G103M 512MB
RAM: 4GB
Windows 7 64bit

I have a feeling it might be because of the graphics card, but I am not an expert so I do not know for sure,
If someone could give me some advice of how I could solve this issue it will be most appreciated.

Thank you

I have one idea that might possibly help you. Open your nVidia control panel (rightclick an empty spot on the desktop and it'll be in the context menu).
Go to Manage 3D settings and you'll see various settings for the videocard driver. One of them is called Maximum pre-rendered frames which I think defaults to 3. Set this to 2 or even to 1 and see if this solves your control lag issue.

First of all, thank you for your reply, secondly, I think it controls just a bit better, but there is still a considerable lag, the action a key does is not instantly. For example if I press the left key it is after 0.5-1 seconds that the car starts to move left.

What settings are you running the games at? With that GPU in it I wouldn't try running much beyond low or a mix of low and medium depending on the game.

That is a lot of lag... sorry to hear my suggestion didn't solve your issue. Unfortunately I have no other ideas here (and I suspect frame rate isn't the problem either).

What are you actually using to play the games? A USB gamepad or just the keyboard/mouse?

Stormy13: I have been running the game at different combinations to see if it has any effect (even with all at low) it is still the same problem. But even if all are at medium and some at high, the car moves nicely without any lag or freezing, the problem is that at whatever settings I play the game there is a time difference between when I push the button and when the action takes place. I hit UP after 0.5 seconds it accelerates, I hit LEFT after 0.5 seconds it turns left while the graphics have no problem.

Corazon: I am playing with keyboard and mouse.

can i ask a question Luka, are you playing games on the Onlive service? i've noticed a considerable amount of lag with the intervals that you mentioned, but it's fine on games like assassins creed etc... it's network lag if this is the case.

Well, I am not an online gamer and the lag that i experience is offline and I have no idea how the computer works with other types of games as I am playing mostly racing games.

You say this only happens in your games? How about daily Windows usage, using the mouse, typing etc. ... is there any unusual lag there?

Hi

I Spent alot of time tuning my old pc to play games such as GTA4 i had a pentium 4 and an nvidia gforce 7600 gs 256 mb

have you tried going in to nvidia setting and changing the graphics textures to performance rather tan quality, Try exiting any background programs such as Skype msn Facebook media player i tunes etc.

If you have a retailed version of windows you get loads of unwanted programs like such as dells give you dell desktop manager. try exiting them too as they really lag your computer.

also try deleting unwanted had-drive files such as temporary internet files and programs that are not used.

also set windows themes to basic instead of aero as that will take less GPU and processor usage

Hope some of this stuff helps:)
