Converted dvds to fit full screen?

Ok, so i used dvdfab to get several dvds on to my laptop. All have been converted to the same file type (mpeg-4) but only some of them will adjust and fill the entire screen while some will have large black bars on the top on sides. These movies that don't adjust also don't have artwork or a synopsis. Can anyone help me out so they all adjust?

Hi tape 94, welcome to the forums

You'll find that it's nothing to do with the software you're using but the format that the file has been originally filmed.

There are a few major aspect ratios that cause the top/bottom blach bars...

normally 2.40:1 aspect ratio will produce black bars where as 1.85:1 will not.

Most films (like The Hangover) use 2.40:1 in order to maintain the original aspect ratio which is that viewed in the cinema and how it was originally filmed. Certain films (like Avatar) have been filmed entirely in 1.85:1 aspect ratio which encompases the entire screen of a widescreen TV.

Certain DVD authoring software will need to be adjusted in order to change/stretch the video output. Although, you ill find that most TV's have a Video Adjust button which will allow the user to select between multiple screen types. 1 of which is 'Cinema' which will increase the size of the image to fill the screen by Height and just a little bit by width, thus giving a full-screen experience...

as far as artwork & synopsis, that's entirely down to the software you use to download such info
