hey,

I am trying to use my wireless router to convert my wired connection to wifi. i have two laptops in which i would like to use the wireless connection. Only router and one laptop have ISP mac registration. I would like to use my router as a bridge to conect to internet and then to trasmit wirelessly, so that i can use internet in both the laptop remotely. Is it possible?

currently one laptop is connected to internet and that too wired connection. it is having a static ip and gate way. How can i use this static ip and gateway so that the router makes the connection and later assigns a new ip to my laptops.

if you are still not clear about the question I can give you more details

can anyone please help me in this......

I think I can help... but your not being very clear.

As I understand it, you have a Wired Router which is connected to the Internet. You want to connect a Wireless Router and use it as a switch, to transmit the data from the wired router to 2 wireless laptops?

So it would look something like this:

Internet>Wired Router>Wireless Router>Laptops

Is that right?

Thanks for showing interest.

I have two laptops with win7 64 bit. and one wireless router.
one laptop is already connected to internet directly without the router in between . so I dont use router currently for my internet.

But this internet connection is restricited to my LAN adapter only as it is specific to my LAN mac id.

I actually need to share this connection to my second laptop via a wireless router ( siemens sl2 141). This router can also can connect to internet beacuse the mac address of this router is also registered with my UNIVersity ISP.

So I am actually trying to get my router configured correctly so that if i pulging in in my current ethernet cable into the router it distributes my internet connection to other ethernets ports and wifi, so that I can connect both laptops to internet.

I am not able to configure the router correclty. only one laptop is having internet access and that too via lan only, whihc is almost same as a connection wothout a router.

ethernet cable______________>wireless Router_________>laptop1 and laptop2

This is now i want it to be. But now if I connect it like only the laptop 1 is connected. Not laptop 2.

Is it possible that the router assigns the dynamic ip for differnent laptops but the router itslef connects to the internet by the static private ip I already have.

Hope you understood the problem now,
regards

I see, so Laptop 2 is being rejected by the network? Most Routers won't accept internet connections via LAN.

The only thing I can think of to try, is to set up Internet Connection Sharing, if you have LAN and WLAN (wifi) then it should be a simple thing to share Laptop 1's connection with Laptop 2.

Take a look here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/76617-internet-connection-sharing-enable.html

If you only have one Ethernet slot (and most Laptops/PC's do) you will probably need to connect Laptop 2 to Laptop 1 via a Wireless Ad-Hoc network. Here's a tutorial: How to Build a Wireless Network Without Using a Broadband Router | Hardware Secrets Use the Vista one, the process is exactly the same.

You said that one laptop is connected to the internet directly without the router in between. How does it connect directly? do you have a ADSL modem connected between the laptop and a telephone line?

Comba, please make sure that you are plugging your ethernet cable from the wall into the uplink or WAN port on the router. If you plug into just the 4-port switch the issue you're seeing may happen.
